Monorail to Contemporary

We planned to spend our first full day at WDW in the Animal Kingdom park but the only breakfast reservation available for Chef Mickey's all week was on that same Saturday at 7:20 AM. I took it.

So in order for our 4 year-old to enjoy his first monorail ride that morning (to the Contemporary for the character breakfast), we plan to drive from Port Orleans resort and park at the Ticket & Transportation Center. He will get a little preview of MK from the resort monorail, right?

With a 7:20 breakfast reservation at Chef Mickey's, is it realistic to expect that we can take the resort monorail back to the T&TC and then drive from there to AK in time for 9:00 AM rope drop?

Yes, the monorail will pass the front of the Magic Kingdom on its way from the TTC to the Contemporary.

Under your plan I would say the chances of making the 9am opening of Animal Kingdom that same day is pretty much zero unless you're very fast eaters.
I've never eaten there, but 1 hour seems a reasonable amount of time for breakfast. So you're walking out of Chef Mickey's at 8:20. 20 minutes to go up to the monorail, ride it one stop to the TTC and walk out to your car (which should be close enough to walk to as it'll be at the front). Drive to AK is 12-15 minutes, that would put you entering the AK lot at 8:55am, and we haven't even gotten to the tram in from the parking lot.

I'd say a 9:30am arrival at AK is far more likely.

Alternately, you could get up early, drive and park at the Contemporary, take a ride on the monorail for a full loop, get back off and eat breakfast at Chef Mickey's at 7:20. (A full loop on the monorail is 20-25 minutes) Then get back in your car right there at the Contemporary and drive to AK. That'd be your best chance of both a 7:20 breakfast and AK rope drop.

I have to agree with Rob. Making it to a 9:00 AM opening is going to be really hard if not impossible. If you park at the Contemporary and forgo the monorail trip you will have a better chance of making the opening of AK.

Why not just park at the Contemporary and ride the monorail for a full loop from there? You'll only wait on a train once and the walk to and from your car will probably be shorter as well. If you ride before you eat (which you already plan to mostly do) then you'll be able to head straight to the park when you're done instead of waiting on a monorail and getting out to your car.

@lazyboy97o is right and you just might make rope drop at AK

Thank you so much, everyone! You could have just shot down my idea and told me why my plan wouldn't work. Instead, you explained the problem with my plan, then presented an option that accomplishes all of my goals for that morning to perfection - including potentially making it to AK just in time for rope drop! Awesome! :D

Just out of curiosity, Since you are driving do you know the quick way to get to the Contemporary from PORS?

No, Master Yoda, I don't. Please share (and I should have mentioned that we are staying at Port Orleans French Quarter)!
The directions are still the same from either resort. Go to the front gate and take a right. The road will end at a light. Tale a left. Take that road until it ends and take a right. Follow that until you hit the Contemporary. The route is pretty easy and you can see it If you pull it up on Google maps. This will avoid you backtracking and going through the MK parking gates.
