Monorail Roundhouse Tour

I am going to be at WDW in June 2008 and was wondering if there is a tour of the Monorail/Railroad roundhouse.

I know about the "Magic Behind Our Steam Trains" tour and from some of the Discriptions of tours people have taken they never went upstairs to were the monorails are.

Hope you all can help

I'm not familiar with any monorail-specific tour. (Hint hint, WDW... $$$$ to be made there!)

I'd wager, however, is that the reason is taking a steam train off/on the spur line that early in the morning isn't a big deal since it is (for all intents and purposes) just an attraction and not exactly one that folks flock to right at opening. The monos, on the otherhand, are heavily used in the mornings for transportation purposes, and thus any temporary shoutdown for a track transfer would be disasterous for crowdflow.

When we went on the steam train tour, we were not even allowed to get off the train in the roundhouse due to insurance liability (open pits, greasy floors, etc)

When I took the Magic Behind the Steam Trains tour, we weren't actually allowed in the round house to walk around and ooo and ahh. We road on the train when it backed into the roundhouse briefly. We got the tour spiel and were told we could not get out for insurance reasons. As mentioned by others, our conductor explained that the steam train round house (and the I assume the monorail roundhouse) is a working machine shop and the CM's that came up with the idea of the steam train tour has to ensure management that guests wouldn't be running around the shop with the possibility of getting hurt. The train pulled out in front of the round house where we could get out and explore the trains more. We did get quiet a bit of info about the monorail barn but didn't get to go upstairs, just got to watch them pull out overhead.

So I'm betting its not likely that we'll get a monorail behind the scenes tour anytime soon. But if you're interested in getting up close and personal with the monorail barn, I totally recommend this tour.

Especially as the usual way of getting in and out of the monorails in the barn is by using portable steps or ladders... I don't see them having Guests climbing in and out of the trains like that. If anything, they'd have to drive them back there in a regular vehicle first.
