money tight-

Me and my husband were discussing,
We could not decide if it would be worth going this year on a tight budget, not being able to do everything we would like. Or wait one more year, knowing we can stay at the hotel we want to, do everything we would like and be able to go out to eat and enjoy the trip vs. being very tight on cash this year and packing sandwiches and limiting our stay etc.

Please share your thoughts,

Exactly our situation. We have room booked for Christmas, but money will be tight (because it is Christmas), and we cannot stay as long. So we are now waiting until March 2011, staying longer and staying where we really want to. It stinks to probably have to skip this year but I would rather be able to enjoy myself and take my time then be rushed and worry about every penny I spend. Good luck with your trip.

I would wait. It would nag on you not to be able to do what you wanted. If it bugs you this early, then waiting is the better bet.

We're kind of doing a skimmed down version of our usual holiday, but my parents now have a villa in Orlando so that's one hell of a reduction in cost. In saying that, we're still skimming down in terms of reducing our days at the parks and reducing our number of ADR's to 1. We're kind of off the opinion, for ourselves that we'd rather go on a budget than wait another year but we're all different.

Just wait. Make a goal, save your money and enjoy a full vacation. We just reached my original goal of $2000 for our trip today :sohappy: . We have been saving since 2008, now we have a baby and a grandmother going so my original goal is short of what I need to have now.

I will say that I got the Disney bug really bad about a year ago and my girlfriend and I didnt have a ton of extra money. We still ended up going and had a great time. it wasnt the most luxurious vacation we had ever been on, but still lots of fun. So I say if you really have the itch to go, just do it. Maybe dont spend all that you were planning on, and save the rest to add to next years trip.

Wow, tough call. Next year is never a give in. I don't think I could handle skipping a year. Whatever decision you make, good luck!

Personally........

Wait a year, you will have a much better time knowing you can do anything you want it and it will make it so much more exciting when you do finally go if you wait an extra few months!

Our trips only come once every 2 years due to the nature of our business in the Uk and the costs associated with travelling etc, and even if we had the time to go every year I think that it would take away the anticipation which to me is part of the fun!

We've had trips like that, but I look at it as its better then no trip. We dont go in for all the frills and so for us being in a nice clean motel room, some simple meals and a tank full of gas and we are good to go. If you do decide to wait another year, theres lots of ways to add to your savings. Yard sales, saving your change, skip dining out and going to movies. We do these things as the norm in planning our trips.

I say if $$ is tight, wait for the free dining offer to come out (hopefully in a month or so) and take a nice smaller trip (maybe a long weekend) this year and then have your regular trip next year.

Value Resort + free dining + free Disney transportation that could make for a nice long weekend?? Plus it would get the Disney trip bug out of your system...

Thanks everyone for the quick responses. The more and more I look on here and read everyone's trip reports the more it makes me not want to wait and just go when money is tight. Seeing how it's going to be our first trip to the world it's very exciting to look and plan the whole trip! It makes me not want to wait till we actually have more money to do more things and what not... But I think it's the more logical thing to do is just wait a couple more months! I think I can do that...:veryconfu Thanks again everyone!

I didn't realise it'll be your first time. We've went quite a few times now, and last year to be honest was te first ever time we stayed on-site. Usually wedo it on a budget (that doesn't mean you miss out) as it allows us to go more often.

DH and I always go to WDW every four years. We'll be going to WDW next year either in Nov or Dec. Starting next month we're going to start purchasing Disney gift cards that you purchase at your local grocery store, so that will go towards dining/souvenirs/etc. I figured if we purchased a $50 gift card every month, but the time our arrival we would have roughly $1100 in gift cards that we could use.

Okay, back to the original post: I would suggest waiting until next year. If money's tight now, and you're not going to be able to stay in the parks as long as you would like, I would rather wait longer but have a much enjoyable and longer trip, then to be on a budget and not be on vacation long IMHO.

The fact that it's your first trip does make a difference. The thing is, It's kind of like deciding when is the right time to have children. If you are waiting until the budget is just right, you probably will never have kids :)

I think you have a great idea... wait a few extra months to get few more $$ to make it more enjoyable. But go! Who knows what may come up between now and a year later and if you will have the money then either. I think if you were a Disney regular, then waiting a year would be no biggie, but you need to get fully inaugurated! Get your self to The World !!

Our first 6 or 7 trips to DL were low budget, offsite hotel, even staying in our 5th wheel trailer one year... and I can tell you the memories are absolutely priceless!!

Wait until you can truly enjoy yourself. And for a lot of the current rehabs and new construction to be complete. Give yourself more time to save your money and expand your options.
