Which is better and why?

I was reading a thread about MNSSHP and if it was for adults. Someone else told me Universal's HHN would be better for us because we are young adults (26&29) who like scary, thrills, etc. and that MNSSHP was not scary at all. Has anyone been to both and have a preference. Can u tell me why? what would make us choose one over the other? Thanks!

Halloween

These two events are completlly different. MNSSHP is a fun kid friendly atmosphere where you get alot of candy, get to see characters dressed up in costumes, and get to watch a fun parade, It is great for the audience it is direcected at. But it is not scary at all.

Halloween Horror Nights on the other hand are pretty terrifing, They go all out, the themeing and detail used is incredible, and it is very scary. They make some pretty gruesome images that would make youor normal Disney loyal tourist faint. I honestly can not attend HHR, I work as a part of it, but i could never go as a customer.

Hope I helped a little.

Universal's HHN are very scary and filled with detail (and accurate to the name "Halloween Horror Nights." They usually have 2 or 3 haunted houses set up in sound stages and they are very scary. My husband and I went in '97 and waited 45 minutes to get into one of the haunted houses. I got in less than 50 feet and left crying. I was terrified. (I was 26 at the time.) I will probably never go back because they have lots of horror stuff (hense the name) and I don't like to be terrified.

The parade they do is awesome. When we went they had huge floats that were really cool and they handed out Mardi Gras-type necklaces. They also had a great stage show when we went (in addition to many of the attractions being open.) It is quite a spectacle and if it weren't so expensive (around $35) I would go to see the parade and stage show, but the haunted houses were a bit too intense for me.

I have never been to MNSSHP, but I've heard that it's lots of fun and family- oriented.

Hope I've helped you make your decision.

My DH and I have been to both events. It wouldn't be fair to vote and say which is better because the two events are so different. HHN is more for the teens and adults. (although I did see some young kids there who seemed to be enjoying themselves.) HHN has scraezones with scareactors jumping out at you and 7 houses to experience. I guess you can call them haunted houses but to me they're more than just haunted house because each is themed behind a storyline. MNSSHP is wonderful..where else can I trick -o- treat without feeling silly! :D The parade is great and we really had a wonderful time. We are going to do both again this year. My DD12 is a little apprehensive about trying HHN so I'm taking her to the HHN daytime tour.

I think it's not a matter of "better". It's all about what type of experience you want to have/what experience is better for you and your travel party.

HHN: Intense...can be very scary and I think geered twords a mature audience. I think that my son would freak out if I took him...which is why I do HHN with my friends and partner.

MNSSHP: Enjoyed it so much! Very family/kid friendly. Honestly, alot of adults dressed up in costumes...some w/o children:lol: . The fireworks were amazing...the trick or treating was fun.

I went to Halloween Horror Nights about seven years ago and I didn't like it. It's not bad in theory, but there's a lot of problems with it. First off, it was extremely overcrowded. They jamed as many people in there as they possibly could fit. They also turned down all the lightning, so you couldn't see where you were going which sucks when you have too many people shoved in a park in the first place. It was also full of teenagers who kept pushing people, causing trouble and just generally being the worst teenager sterotypes you can imagine.

When we got in, they made us sign a waver that we realized we wouldn't get to see everything. Lines for the haunted houses were literally two-three hour waits. They just oversell the nights, filling the park to capacity instead of limiting the number of tickets like WDW's hard ticket events.

I didn't enjoy it. But I know people who go to it every year. Maybe it's just not my thing but I was uncomfortable and squished and we didn't even get to do anything all night because of the lines.

Now, that said, MNSSHP is a completely different experience. It's more fun and lighthearted. I enjoy dressing up in costume at MK and I enjoy the playful villians style of the party. I don't need gore or horror to have a good time. Some people might think it's too watered down of a Halloween experience, but for me, I liked it a LOT better. I'd do it again without question.

I have only been to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal but I second that its really freakin scary! I am pretty whimpy with Haunted Houses etc. but Universal took it to another level. My friends I went with had a blast but I was like freaking out. LOL [like I said whimp!] They do go all out scaring you, chasing you with chain saws jumping out and grabbing you its insane. And it was PACKED. We went on like a Thursday and it was packed.

My friends had a good time at Universal but I was like never again. It was pretty hard-core, but if you and your friends are into being scared/extreme thrills you/they will enjoy it.

MNSSHP always appealed to me. Universal has too many drunk people and it is just if you want to get scared, not really if you want to enjoy yourself. Plus at Disney, they give you great free candy!

actually both make you wet myself, but for different reasons.

halloween horror nights will make you wet yourself with fear.
MNSSHP will make you wet yourself with laughter.

ive been to both a few times, you want my opinion,
if your squeemish or faint harted DO NOT go to HHN
if your after a bit of fun and to be scared a very very tiny bit go MNSSHP

both are good, both are amazingly detailed,it really personal preference.

Everyone else has already nailed the major differences. Halloween Horror Nights : Scary and for teens / adults. Mickey's: Not scary, fun for everyone. You'll also pay 10 - 12 bucks less for Mickey's, so consider that too.

To update the HHN info a little bit: As of now, there are no plans for a parade, so I wouldn't get my hopes up on that. Doesn't mean they can't put one together, just means that they ain't planning on it at the moment. There're gonna be seven houses this year, and all signs indicate the event will be Studios only. No Islands of Adventure this year. Are there lots of people there? Oh yeah. Are some of those people drunk by the end of the night? Um, also yes. Unfortunately with an event that big, you're gonna get some goofballs who just wanna drink. If you go, consider the night you pick, as that peak nights are more crowded than off-peak nights (open longer hours, too).

Sorry your experience was crummy, MissM. I'd never heard of signing waivers before. I can tell you that they haven't done that for at least the last four years, though.

I have been to both but the events are 180 degrees apart from each other that they almost cant be compared. MNSSHP is definitely geared toward a younger audience and focuses more on the happy go lucky side of Halloween. HHN is all about the horror scare the bejeebuzz out of you side.

I like both but I wouldn't bring my 5 year old to HHN.

I'm a young adult and I much prefer MNSSHP. I'm one of those cheesy Disney people so I love all the silly costumes and the parade and the fireworks show. Plus you get to ride most of MK's rides with shorter lines. So you need to think about how much tolerance you have for silly Disneyness versus how much tolerance you have for scary stuff.

Well, we'regoing 2 more times this year (we have a free trip with free air anmd hotel, and also a separate trip with free air). I think we will to Universal's HHN and Disney's MVMCP. I definitely HAVE to see Disney at Christmas.

I would say if you like scary movies then HHN is the place you would like to go. They have between 5-7 Hounted houses and plenty of scare zones. You will be chased and scared through out the park. I attend the event every year when I am there and I enjoy it. I will say if you find a scary movie frightening then I would suggest that you attend MNSSHP.:D

I have been to both, and I adored both!!

I took my kids last year to MNSSHP, and they loved it, including my then 11 year old. This year, we are going to take him to Universal's Halloween Horror Nights, and take our two little ones, aged 2 and 4, to MNSSHP. It'll be a blast.

I sure hope that helps. You can be a fan of both, as I am. :sohappy:
