MK Sit Down Recommendations

Hi! I'm going in February and need suggestions for MK Sit Down restuarants. We will be on DDP and I already have a lunch reservation for BOG. Please don't say Jungle Canteen. I think the menu says great but I don't think my kids (15 & 17) will be happy with the menu. Also, I don't want to leave the park for a hotel restaurant, I don't want to spend time in transit.
Thanks so much!

If things like Jungle Canteen's grilled steak, fried chicken, savory noodles, and baked fish are too wild for your teens (keeping in mind that when you strip away the flamboyant descriptions of each dish, there are several that are quite traditional), I'm not really sure what to suggest. I think the best best is probably Liberty Tree Tavern, where they can get simple meats, mac and cheese, and green beans, etc.... plus, it's all-you-care-to-enjoy, so if somebody only likes a couple of the meal's components, they can make a meal of just those. It's one of my childrens' reliable favorites.

If you think they'd like a character meal and don't mind a lengthy time investment (our dinner here took almost 3 hours, thanks to a 30+-minute wait to be seated, sluggish character rotation and 2 kids who really wanted to meet all the characters), there's Crystal Palace (buffet with Pooh characters). We found the food to be excellent (a step above typical buffet fare in terms of freshness and flavor), with lots of variety to please everyone.

I wouldn't waste dining plan credits on any of the other TS options in the MK -- Tony's and the Plaza are a la carte, with fairly pedestrian food; they're great if you want value paying out of pocket, but on the DDP you're trading good money for an unremarkable sandwich or some just-thawed chicken parm; and Cinderella's Royal Table will cost you 2 credits for a very limited prix fixe menu (no less exotic than Jungle Canteen's) with a fuzzy view of the MK and a few more squealing little girls than is really necessary in any situation. ;)

So when you say sit down restaurants, do you mean waiter and waitress service, or a place that has tables inside to sit? Like Peco's Bill or Cosmic Ray's vs the Casey's Corner type?

Let me clarify...My kids aren't that picky but my son is not a big sauce person. I guess we can get it on the side. Do you really like Canteen's food? I've read the fried chicken is not very good and is over fried. After reading all the comments I am wondering if we should skip the MK table service restaurant and save that credit for another meal. Definitely not up for a character meal buffet. Thanks so much for your feedback!

My family had a great meal there -- things we tried (which may or may not be the same now) included the falafel appetizer, duck noodle bowl, "tastes like chicken," the pork dish, the steak, and the steak salad. Obviously others' reviews may vary, and everybody is different. The good news is that no matter where you go, Disney is great about customizing things where they can, and "sauce on the side" won't be a tough accommodation for most entrees.

In park, it is one of the best places at Disney.... My fried chicken was not over fried at all.... It is lightyears better than BOG as well...

Liberty Tree Tavern would be a great choice for a family with teens, a family style served meal. Theres a variety of items served... salad, turkey, pot roast, pork roast, mashed potatoes, green beans, stuffing, mac & cheese and you can ask for more servings of any of the items until you are filled. Its always been a favorite site for us to dine. Unfortunately MK does lack in dining options that IMHO are worth the price, but LTT is a winner.

I kept hearing that and the server said it was one of their specialties, but I must have dined on a bad night...I'm the least picky person when it comes to food...definitely not a foodie and rarely dislike anything. But the chicken was so dry and overcooked...truly terrible. (My wine was good though!) :hungry::joyfull:

Magic Kingdom food, in general, is not very good. Liberty Tree has some good days, especially if you like Thanksgiving food. This would be the best option for "picky" eaters as nothing is sauced really. Skipper Canteen is the best option for quality food in the park. Everything else, in my opinion, is pretty low quality. I'd rather eat at Pecos Bills or hop on the monorail somewhere.

I’d strongly recommend Crystal Palace. Very good food (especially the Steak) and the restaurant is lovely with the sun streaming in through all the glass.

Being on the DDP provides good value here

I'm not always huge into sauce on my food. I just like to control the amount I eat. For the chicken I've had it was on the side. I don't think I did it for the pork but that as a glaze really. The chicken is phenomenal though! Love it!!! I highly suggest going there at least once. We find it to be one of the better options.

Only other one I would suggest would be the Plaza.

Yeah, that's not what it was like at all... Bad day which happens at Disney all the time...

I can’t speak to value on the dining plan but The Plaza is my favorite table service. It’s basics - burgers, fries, sandwiches, shakes, ice cream etc. it’s not that much more $$ than quick serve so might be an out of pocket candidate if looking to save credits for a signature meal during the trip. We’ve always loved The Plaza.
