Mix of magic band & hard card holders

My husband and I are going to wdw in October. We have a room only reservation so our tickets won't be linked to the room key cards. I'm an AP holder with the new hard card, he's not. We're just getting his ticket when we get there because of his job we won't know until the last minute if we'll have 3 or 4 days in the parks. Will he end up with a magic band or regular card? I ask because if I have a hard card and they were to give him a magic band how does that work when it comes to fast passes in the park?

first thing i would do is go to the My Disney Experience on the website, and link your AP card to your account. I did it myself, so it's pretty easy-(i am no techie) just type in the numbers.
once your card is linked, click fastpass +-, see if it allows you to make any choices. also, click on magic bands, if you will be receiving them it instructs you to customize them.
this will tell you if your hotel is doing the testing at that time and you will know if you will get magic bands or need to make FP+ choices before you go.
if it does allow you to do these things, then maybe you should go ahead and buy the three day tickets so you can link it to the account also and make your choices, you can always upgrade it to the four day after you arrive if you need to. (just be sure to do it while still in the parks, you cannot add a day after the ticket has expired)
if it doesn't allow these things, no you will not be doing anything different than your previous trips
