Ever notice the theming of Liberty Square - Frontierland? Liberty Square goes from Haunted Mansion (Hudson Bay area) through to the Mississippi.
Just before the west, you reach that odd perpendicular pathway that is a differetn shade and paved with gravel. This is the Mississippi River, the border of the West East in the actual US.
I thought that was interesting. You can see all sorts of other details throughout Liberty Square as you travel through time and space to get to the new frontier, and eventually to the ol' train stop at Big Thunder.
