Mission: SPACE to open in preview phase on Aug. 10

So what does this change exactly? It's been open from 9 am to 9 pm with Fastpass operational since about July 31st...I think it's just a gimmick to draw out the opening of this attraction as much as possible. As another site stated, it seems by the time this attraction officially opens, there won't be anyone who hasn't ridden. So...we had soft soft soft soft openings starting in June, soft soft soft openings starting July 31st, soft soft openings starting today, soft openings starting August 15...what's next? semi-soft openings? 3-ply soft openings? Sheesh...they should just admit that it's open already. Normal park guests wouldn't know any differently if the CMs didn't say anything. Over four months of previews for a single attraction...insane. Oh, look...it's raining...there's a surprise...

CMs have openly told park guests that the ride would be open 9 am to 9 pm since July 31st. At park opening, waiting for gate drop, a certain woman was going from family to family telling them to ride Mission: SPACE as it would be open for previews 9 am to 9 pm, and it would officially open August 10th. She was clearly a Guest Relations CM (no attraction costume), so she was told to tell guests this. She even told me this...even though I had a Mission: SPACE visor on, ISTC credentials, and a SPACE t-shirt on lol...she was trying to tell me it's a great ride...I'm like "I know." lol

And the sign outside says "Mission: SPACE previews". Disney has been very selective with their wording to guests versus their wording to CMs since April 22nd.

but how is that different from how it was all last week. I rode it 9 am to 9 pm...seems like they are using different terms for the same thing just to make it possible to release as many LE pins as possible. What is the difference between the previews we saw last week, the ones we will see next week, and the ones we will see through October...all four centrifuges open, changes still being made to the ride (they will certainly continue to be made), open 9 am to 9 pm, Stand-by, Fastpass, and Single Rider lines functional, and centrifuges break down sporatically. I mean...if this is soft opening, it seems Test Track has been in soft opening for the past 4½ years.

The difference is, now Disney says that they have hammered all the bugs out, while it was in previews Disney made No guarentees that it would be open from 9am-9pm, even the AP Preview invites said that there were no guarentees that it would be open all day.
Now Disney guarentees that it will be open all day.

IMO you should read the messages right....

The Thread starter states...

leaders have decided to open the attraction in a special preview phase throughout Epcot operating hours beginning on Aug. 10.

So it's STILL in preview mode.....

Exactly. There is absolutely no change over last week. Mission: SPACE is very much on the same operating schedule as Test Track, as of July 31st: Disney does its best to keep the rides open 9 am to 9 pm, but outside conditions or technical difficulties can affect this schedule. Every attraction at the Walt Disney World Resort has that same disclaimer even as Disney tries to keep the ride open during announced operating hours. And, as I said, last week, 9 am to 9 pm was announced to park guests--it was said to me, and anyone else up at the rope drop Monday, August 4th, at the left side of Spaceship Earth. Seems to me that the only change is that we will see a new LE pin released every day through the 15th. Isn't this attraction still technically in previews through October...or will the signs outside say "Mission: SPACE soft opening"? "Preview" seems more professional, and less likely to confuse Guests not familiar with the term "soft opening"

How does one begin a preview 2 months after it has begun?

Add qualifier terms--Special preview, sneak preview, super sneak preview. Or, do like Cynthia Harriss--release pins. Interesting that our AP pins say "Grand Opening" on them, when that isn't for another two months.

It is definately not in preview mode anymore. That news release MAY say preview mode, but it is NOT in preview mode. I have been told to tell the guests that it is now open 9-9 and will not close for anything unless its a technical diffuculty.

It doesn't say that they start just a preview....
Read the whole message... really...

It says: "a SPECIAL preview phase throughout Epcot operating hours beginning on Aug. 10."

If they wanted to keep the previews as they were, they wouldn't have done a thing...

To be really honest... Testing is all done, and even more than that... so they could move the soft opnening to the 10th... which they don't, because of the publications already made...

Let's ask them to close M:S until the 15th...
Then everyone would start nagging, and we couldn't have that...

Why is everyone so uptight about the way a message is written..
You should be glad that it stay open throughout the operating hours of EPCOT
So take a drink, a deep breath.. and be happy about this...

No one is uptight, we were just questioning the reasoning for the announcement in the first place. It says, "a special preview phase throughout Epcot operating hours BEGINNING on Aug. 10." So what was it on August 9th exactly? It just seems pointless especially because the CM's have already been telling everyone that it is open from 9-9 anyway.

This is basically just a way for Disney to say that they have formally passed a milestone on this project. The actual times of opening will be the same and will continue to be the same, apparently. I'm just glad it will be open when I'm there is September.

You're right about that one...
it SEEMS pointless, but...attendance is too low... last lines were only around 50 mins... that's disappointing...expectations were much higher...
Hoping with announcing a "Special Preview" will get more people in line... it's only a trick... nothing more...
But Disney always must have a name to something... and this time it's a "Special Preview" although there's nothing really "Special" about this...

BTW I'm not trying to start an argument with you...
You'll be probably Bigger, Stronger an younger than I am... :D
