Mission Space possibility .....CAVE???

I was looking thru old Epcot rumors and such on the main site, and it has been rumored that Mission Space would be those centrifuge rides by ERT, similar to the Virtual Space Mountain at Disney Quest.....but i was surprised to notice, that elsewhere on the site, where there was talk about that CAVE technology, that ERT ALSO produces CAVE technology.....so what im wondering, is that could Mission Space not be a centrifuge, but more of a simulator with CAVE tech??? Or maybe a combination of both? Was the Mission Space ride system ever confirmed?

Im leaning that way too....This ride is gonna be HUGE and Disney knows this....they wouldnt plop down a ride thats almost identical to something at Disney Quest. Neither would they sit you on a stool in the middle of a CAVE just looking around..... I believe Mission Space will probably surpass Spider-Man technology-wise....I have a feeling we're looking at something like 10 different, 8 passanger centrifuge like simulators, sitting inside a CAVE  .....i cant wait till next spring break baby.....

officially...the ride system is "proprietary". but...we do know that it simulates gravity, so it definitely has a centrifuge. How big each car is or whether or not CAVE will be used...have to wait till next February/March...I do agree, however, that this should surpass Spiderman...

No offence to spiderman or anything..but that ride really isnt THAT revolutionary...original..I'll give it that..but it uses nothing "new"...

but...it IS the one ride at IoA that has received a LOT of publicity. All I ever hear about is how amazing it is. Mission: Space is disney's way of shooting IoA out of the water once and for all. We all knew disney could do everything better than Universal anyway...this is just disney proving it to the Travel Channel:) (if you watch the Travel Channel with all its shows about Universal parks, you know what I mean...)

Hey DogsRule,

I thought i was the only one who watched the travel channel,I love that channel! They have cool shows and the "behind the scenes" SECRET shows are awesome. The one on Disneyland Paris was cool, and Busch gardens. My only gripe is the overall ANTI_DISNEY FEEL. They do have a couple of shows with disney in it and rarely but sometimes disney parks make a countdown(waterparks and not coasters.rrrrr.) But they definately give Disney a much undeserved back seat to other attractions like Universal. They have a sh@#load of commercials for Disney but they don't support them. But we all know the truth;) Disney is the HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH.

Name one other ride that uses a simulator car through a dark ride with real scenes and 3D movies.

I rode it a month ago, I loved it. But I do think there is something to be said for rides like CTX and Indy. You can't get that "I'm there" feel from 3D movies.

As for Space... knowing Disney now, I would not say it will blow IOA out of the water. I wouldn't even say it blows Horizons out of the water. Not yet.

well...

Rider,

I believe Now's point was that it combines existing technologies... but doesn't really have any NEW ones. Mission : SPACE is supposedly going to contain an all-new ride system, something no one else has. Other people have dark rides, rides with real scenes, and 3D movies. This is the distinction being made between NEW technology and just putting a bunch of existing stuff in one ride..

However, I do believe that Spiderman is a great ride and we aren't trying to knock it down..."Just the Facts, Ma'am"...

I was talking to a CM at the Launch center in Innoventions and he told me it is the closest the everyday person will come to space. You will somehow experience weightlessness and take off forces. I didn't get too much other info. But he said that Dennis Tito spent 20,000,000 to do the same thing your getting in a 50 dollar admission.

Yes dwldzm9, thats exactly what i was trying to say...

I think spiderman is a fantastic ride...original in its concept..but its using "old" technology...

Mission:Space is giong to be, as far as we know, all new things of which we (as non military/nasa civilians) have never ridden. I think no matter how hard they try..they wont be able to screw that up ;)

I don't think it would take much on Disney's part to ruin IoA's image. It already has exceedingly low attendance. As far as I can tell, Spiderman is the only ride there that you couldn't find a similar ride at a Six Flags. Six Flags and Cedar Point will always have the biggest, fastest, most outrageous coasters. It is a mistake to try and get into the coaster business this late in the game...if I want coasters, I'll go to Cedar Point where they have 15...not universal for two. Disney, however, goes all-out with their coaster theming (please disregard Primeval Whirl! for a moment...), and that's why disney coasters are extremely successful. IoA has not been successful, but everyone seems to love Spiderman. That leads me to believe it's the only ride they have going for them, so they push it a LOT. They made a whole show on the Travel Channel about the ride system (I wonder how much Universal pays the Travel Channel to do this kinda stuff...). So what's disney do? Make a much more high-tech ride and hype it up just as much. And that's one year before opening. You can bet there will be a MASSIVE media event when it opens. I'm sorry, but floating out of my seat for an extended period of time is MUCH more appealling than Spiderman. There is a difference between entering a comic book and actually feeling like you are in space.

This is correct, but many times a new tech. is not needed to make an spectacular ride as Spidey's. They really worked their minds in this attraction. They used known "material" but the importance is that they used them in the correct way and so the final product was amazing.
However, if originality and technology can be put together they made marvels. So, I hope M:S really combine this two elements to create something never seen which can attract people.

I haven't seen to huge a hype over Mission: Space yet

By September of this year they should start doind commercials to hype the ride making people want to travel to Disney World. They should also put Bilboards with coming soon near the other parks so people can think of coming back to ride "that amazing space ride"

every other word that comes out of Michael Eisner's mouth refers to Mission: Space. I realize there aren't any commercials, that'd be excessive, but they are definitely trying to get those who pay attention to disney excited.

I found IOA much better than Cedar Point and Six Flags (dont get me started on Six Flags). And CP is my home park.

The theme of IOA is amazing, something that CP would not try. The Dragons are the best inverted coasters in the world. They are the most themed and the only dueling inverts.

Hulk is the only coaster with a launch like that.

Spiderman is the second best dark ride only to INDY (IMHO).

Lets compare recent Disney and IOA?

DCA or IOA? Which would you go to?

And Disney Seas is not by the same management.

At current time, id choose IoA..DCA is still a "new" park and has a lot of expanding to do before I see it as being "better" than IoA.
