I remember the delay with Test Track. Since they do not have the countdown clock at Innoventions anymore, I believe it may be behind schedule.(any inside info anyone???)

I'm not bashing Disney in any way. When you are building groundbreaking attractions from scratch, problems are bound to arise, especially with ride systems as complicated as these. I seem to remember a story about a Test Track car crashing during the early testing of the ride.

I have no doubt it will be a great ride. That makes the wait a little easier.(but just a little)

keep in mind, the outside doesn't HAVE to open 9 months before the inside does. This means that you can't really judge how well they are doing on the inside from the outside. Perhaps they decided that people would be irritated if they had to wait 9 mos. from when the first saw the inside to when they got to ride the long-awaited attraction, and are now planning on the exhibits and the ride opening at the same time. The outside was never the problem--it could have been completed a year ago if they really wanted--it's the brand new ride system, and we already know Mr. Eisner has ridden the attraction (he said so in his stock report!). Remember when they originally announced the attraction and stated that they had set aside a year for testing? Something leads me to believe they are already testing this attraction.

I think Mission Space going to open up earlier because Disney does not want to get sponsor angry. Think of how mad GM was over Test Track.

I hope they get it opened on time, this ride should rock. Does anyone know if it's only got the ride in the building or there are gonna be any other attractions in there?

I don't think it will make much of a difference that HP and Compaq will merge. I would assume that Compaq and Disney signed a contract, and when HP takes over, they will be bound to honor all the debts of Compaq, and sponsorship will probibly just revert to HP for the life of the contract. When Epcot opened Spaceship0 Earth was sponsored by the bell systems, untill the breakup, and was then sponsored by AT&T which was the largest of the "baby bells" I'd guess that once the merger is official, you will start to see HP signs on the construction walls.

um...Compaq has already paid all of the money. The ride system is in place and the building is constructed...which means all materials have already been bought. All a merger/buy-out would involve is a change from "Sponsored by Compaq" to "Sponsored by HP"

Okay Econimics Lesson:

Compaq did not pay the money up front. The project is funded by Compaq but they pay as they go with payments on a fixed time schedule. Any CFO that made a deal to provide that kind of funding up front would be fired by the BoD the next day. The contract also requires that Compaq fund the upkeep and ongoing costs to keep Mission Space operating. I have learned over the years that there is no such thing as a merger there are only takeovers!

In addition, The deal with Compaq calls for Disney and Compaq to be co-parterners. Disney will purchase compaq computer equipment for all of its server and desktop applications as well as resell Compaq on its Disney Storefront website. In order for the deal to continue, Disney has to desire to purchase from HP and HP has to agree to allow Disney to resell their product or the entire deal will require renegotiation. It is a little more complex that it appears on the surface.

One final item. HP may not have to honor all of the Compaq agreements. If Compaq ceases to exist as a legal entity, any contract that they are currently engaged in becomes null and viod. HP has sole discression to maintain such contracts.

The difference in this scenario is that AT&T was the parent company of Bell Telephone. AT&T did not cease to exist. Compaq will.
