Mission: Space g-forces?

Hello everone

I am relatively new to the boards and had a question.

After my vacation to WDW in May 2004 my brother and I were pretty pumped about going on M:S.

After terrifying me with all the warnings we went on the ride and loved every minute of it, other then the landing sequence that caught me off guard. :hammer:

Myself being the type of personality that I am I decided to ask a CM how many G-Forces the ride puts on guests, we figured the ride wasn't even a year old at the time put it was fairly intense but awesome in my opinion.

The CM wasn't able to tell us because it was supposedly a "secret"

Would anyone here on this board by chance know how intense the ride is and how it compares to other rides at WDW.

Thanks everyone

P.S. Can't wait to go again, whenever that is..lol.

Since the opening, the Ride Profile has been set 1.5G...

So there is no truth to the rumor that its been toned down?

Or does "opening" not include "soft openings" which is when I first went on the attraction and thought it was much more intense then it is now?

Nope!!! None WhatSoEver, whatever people might say...

After the "Sand Bagging" NOTHING has been changed... and since that was before the CM Preview and/or the Soft Opening... so...... :)

Since then it's running the same profile...

Thanks, I've always wondered about that.

If I remember correctly from previous conversations on this, there has never been confirmation that the speed of the centrifuge has been slowed since opening. Some people have reported that it felt "toned down" many months after M:S opened, but it's hard to know for a certainity, unless someone knows for a fact that the speed has been adjusted. Unless I've missed something in previous posts, no reliable insider has confirmed any changes.

But, I've slept since then, and could be totally mistaken.:D

*EDIT* And, while I was typing, Corrus confirmed no changes. Corrus is a Cool Mean Guy!

Some people seem to get concerned about the g-force, but that is not the real issue. The issue is how well you deal with sensory conflict, which is your mind receiving conflicting sensory input about the movement of your body in relation to other objects. That's why it's repeated several times before "pre-launch" to keep your head still, and focus on the screen in front of you. What happens on the screen corresponds with the motion your body feels, and lowers the sensory conflict. If you look to the side or look at the controls too long, everthing is stationary - but your senses are telling your brain, except your vision, that you're moving. And that's where the nausea or disorientation can occur.

Okay, scientific talk over. G-forces rule!

I swear, I was just going to post the same exact question when I saw this thread!

So, about how many G's do you experience on the Rockin' Rollercoaster?

Thanks!

I just think that now we know what type of ride it is its the shock factor has worn off. I remember having a few lower bowl movement's the first time, but now i love it a wish it was stronger. Typical Addict.

Depends. On launch? Probably the same, but on other parts of the ride it can get up to 5gs (for fractions of seconds).

It's not the intensity of the Gs, just how long they are sustained.

Is it the same sustained G-forces as one of those rides where you stick to the wall?

Also wondering, do you ever really experience 0 gravity? If so, for how long?

Leaving for WDW in 2 days, 9 hours, 27 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reading these boards has been the reason I'm so pumped this time.

the zero gravity effect is a fake... it's simply the centrifical forces that are pushing your body that make you feel like you're floating.

the ride is basicaly several pods hooked up to a central post and you are spun at several thousand rmps .

as someone said it's basicaly a super high tech centerfuge carnival ride.

Heh, not quite that fast. At 3,000 RPM you'd be getting about 50,000 G's.

Hmm, that's gotten me confused as they reported on the Mouseguest podcast that they had been slowed down.

Well, no matter, I'll be able to make up my own mind in a few days. :)

All I know is we will not be riding it. We always go on every ride, this ride we're going to skip. I just don't like all the rumors or acidents that have happend on it.

DisneyFreak:

Don't deny yourself a great ride experience based on unfounded "rumors or accidents." It is truly an amazing experience and, like most everything at Disney, needs to be experienced personally so you can judge for yourself.

As to the "rumors or accidents," I'm not sure to what you are referring. There hasn't been any accident on M:S that I am aware of - there was one unfortunate and untimely death of a small boy who had a pre-existing congenital heart defect. His death was imminent and could have occurred anywhere - walking to school, watching television etc. The ride was in no way at fault.

As to rumors specifically, you will always hear people's personal preferences about an attraction. Some people don't like ToT and get dizzy, others find that the loop in RnRc makes them nauseaus. Others, of course, love both of those rides. You won't know until you try it - just once! If you hate it, never ride it again; however, I bet you'll be like most guests and absolutely feel that it is one of the most unique and fun ride experiences anywhere.

I love this ride .How many of you [like me] have looked to the side during the ride to see what happens? I had to try it and wished I had'nt took me a few seconds of looking at the screen to take the queazy feeling away.Next time I will look staight at the screen and keep my curiosity in check

Nothing to worry about riding M:S. It's "Disneyfied'. :) If you can take all other disney thrills, M:S shoudn't be all that bad. I wish it was more intense, mself.

I'm not saying I don't believe you, Corrus, but I was talking to a CM on the Keys to the Kingdom tour who seemed very knowledgable, and she mentioned that it had been toned done since it opened.

I know Keys to the Kingdom is in MK and not Epcot, but I just wanted to pass on what I was told.

i just have to wonder about all the people who say its been "toned down"...

perhaps they just now know what to expect, so, since it isnt an unknown, it doesnt seem as intense.

Cuz I'll bet money that Corrus is also very knowledgable
