This should be reassuring:

"And besides, Currid revealed last week that his company isn't a sponsor of Mission: Space in the traditional sense. "Compaq isn't funding it . . . they're buying our technology. It's a purchase deal," he said."

Sounds like the Mission:Space startup funding doesn't hinge on Compaq. The long-term sponsorship may be in doubt, but that's just a matter of finding another sponsor. Assuming this is a big hit and attendance picks up as expected, that shouldn't be a problem.
Isn't is strange that - given the problems with past high-tech rides (see: Test Track) - they would have tried to pinpoint an open date with a countdown clock in the first place?

That's interesting about the reservations thing. I didn't even think about that but I'm sure they were getting booked fast for something over a year away. Personally I'd rather wait until the lines die down. We just happened to be there when Aladdin's Magic Carpet ride opened, which was cool, but the line was long and people were quite obsessed with it. More obsessed than most people are with a ride b/c they were there only 2 days before when the construction wall was still up and then they went and the wall was down.

The answer to the spiderman ride? Any views on this? That is one hell of a ride to beat. The amount of space they have for this ride doesent look like it will be moving around much. Isn't it going to be stationary?

I don't believe Mission Space will be using C.A.V.E. technology. In fact, no Theme Park attractions have used C.A.V.E. yet. It was thought at one time that the replacement for the Great Movie Ride would be using this, but that rumor seems to have died down.

Most of the known information about Mission Space can be found on the WDW Magic main page.

From what is known, it will be based on a centrifuge type ride system. You will spin at high speed in a pod. This will create high g-forces. A sudden slow down in speed will create a brief moment of simulated weightlessness. I would imagine a video screen in the pod will give some type of visual clues. It seems like this ride will be somewhat like a souped up version of Star Tours/Body Wars.

You left out the part about your head exploding from the impact against the POD due to the sudden slowdown.

Heading for the great escape.
Strange comment about bookings, Disney were reluctant to take bookings so far ahead from me as they could not offer a price.
So not only will they be booking for an attraction that may not open they wont know how much its going to cost.
Sounds like a bit of paper talk to me.
