First off im new here so please dont bite my head off i dont post much but do read posts on this site atleast 3 times a day. I am a member to the disney vacation club and go to disney atleast 2 times a year. I always get the birnbaum's guide to walt disney world and find it to be almost always right with the infomation inside. well anyways i got the 2003 copy lastnight and went right to Epcot to see what they wrote about Misson Space. well here it is:................

Mission: Space

Think you have "the right stuff" This is you chance to find out! A dramatic, new attraction is blasting its way into future world. Its mission? To give you a chance to experience the intensity of space travel without actually leaving the planet.

Set to open sometime in LATE 2003, mission space aspieres to provide a galaxy of thrills. It starts with a whitenuckle blast off of a space craft (which has snug seating for four) on a secrect misson. the sustained g force during the launch is intended to be most realistic. Once enroute expect to experience a strange sensation. Its not quite weightlessness but ACCORDING to ASTRONAUTS who felt the real thing its pretty dran close.

well it goes on with just the height stuff of not beable to ride yada yada yada

well i think this is good and bad im going to miss it when i go next month but it tell me that there has been people rideing on it according to the astronauts...... well tell me what you think and please again dont get all over me about this i have just been reading alot of post about it and this is the only "facts" well atleast in print that i can find

The guides are playing it nice and safe with late 2003. Dont read too much into this, guide books are printed way in advance of knowing the real situation, and very often they are not given any kind of advance info, they tend to use rumor sites and other sources to gain a picture of what they THINK may happen. :)

The riding that was referenced in the book is most likely the prototype that they built prior to building the final ride system. This was ridden by a number of people a number of years ago.

Thanks for posting! :)

I agree with what you say that the book is printed well in advanced but this guide is printed from a branch of disney called disney editions it is the only guide book that disney would call "official" so seeing that there is no other infomation that has any fact base to it i think i am going to lean towards the guide then speculation on when it would open. there not even in soft opening stages yet. so a spring of 2003 is almost out of the question. i just hate to see someone to plan a trip to go to WDW in the late spring or ealry summer thinking that it would be open that is the reason why i post this.........

a little for screamscape

2003 - Mission: Space - (1/5/03) It seems that there may indeed be some delays for Mission: Space, despite a rumor going around the park that Eisner himself is demanding that the ride be open by July 4th... (or else!). The word going around the insiders however is that they are looking at something closer to late July or even August at the current pace. Previous estimates in Fall 2002 had it opening by June 2003 however.

take it all with a grain of salt i guess it opens when it opens

Hey!
Thank you for the information that you shared. It is really helpful and they really did play it safe when they said " Late 2003". By the way, where did you get that magazine or book or whatever it is that held this information. Thank you and I hope to here back from you!

Hi everyone!

It's a book. Birnbaums (however you spell it) is one of the most popular books on Disney. You can easily find it at any bookstore in the U.S. if you just look in the travel section of the store.

Well, Late 2003 can mean a lot. Late for who? Would August be late? Do they mean Late 2003 as in the fisical year? That could mean that it would open in July.

tidbit rumor

Also Another rumor Heard was that 80% of the people that rode the simulated ride got sick on it which left them scratching there heads what next i kinda wonder if that is a factor in pushing back the opening date but like everything else just another grain of salt to listen to.
