Misdirected Merch (shipping from in-park stores): Is this a common thing?

[Note to the mods: I didn't know where to put this. If it belongs in the general parks discussion thread, please move it.]

During our Disney vacation a week ago, I purchased an item at Memento Mori in the MK that was oversized, and opted to pay a few extra dollars to have it shipped back to our home. I had never used this service before, but was happy to have the option, as the item wasn't available to buy online and wasn't going to fit in my carryon on the way home, and I'm sure it would have cost me far more to take it to a post office and send it myself.

It arrived at our house 3 days ago, safe and sound. However, a second large box arrived with it -- containing over $200 worth of Disney merchandise that I had _not_ purchased! Instead, another person's name, address and phone number were on the packing slip in the second box. On closer inspection of the contents and the receipt, it looks like a cast member (given the CM discount on the receipt and the shared last name between the Florida resident purchaser and the NY resident recipient) had carefully picked out some gifts for family members, and mailed them from the World of Disney store at Disney Springs. Somehow, their box got tagged with a shipping label addressed to me instead.

In a way, it was a serendipitous mistake. The intended recipient lives within a 25-minute drive of me, and the purchaser had inadvertently put down the wrong zip code for them, meaning this box might have been delayed or misdirected even if the "correct" address on the packing slip had been used. Since the recipient's phone number was on the packing slip and I wasn't sure if the shipment was time-sensitive for him, I called and spoke with him briefly, explaining the situation and offering to meet at a public place to hand over the box to him, but he seemed confused (probably didn't even know the box was coming and assumed I was some sort of scammer or other weirdo). He said he had to go join a Zoom meeting but would call me back shortly, and then never did.

So I called Disney Merchandise services. They'll be sending me a shipping label to put on the box, and have asked me to drop it off at the nearest UPS mailing station (which, for me, is a 30-minute drive in one direction or another).

While I don't mind making the extra effort, especially considering that I think a cast member's hard-earned money went into selecting these items for family members (the items in the box are clearly intended for 3 or 4 individuals of different ages/genders), I can't help but wonder if this happens often. The reaction I got from the representative I spoke with was one of tremendous relief and gratitude that I wasn't intending on keeping the mistakenly-sent goods, with the implication that this happens pretty often, with varying results.

Given that this was my one-and-only experience with shipping merchandise from WDW stores, can anyone else say whether they've been on one end, or the other, of this kind of error? If it happens often enough that my current percentage is 100%, I think I'd feel more hesitant to ship things next time around. On the other hand, maybe I just lucked into a wild anamoly.

Disney should have offered to give you a UPS pickup from your location if it's a hassle for you to drop it off. Call them back and ask!

But that's very good of you to go out of your way to try to help!

I know people who've gotten the wrong items in shopdisney shipments but nothing like what you're dealing with.
