Mirrors?

One thing I've noticed recently in more than one area of WDW is the use of mirrors, and how they don't really give the effect as well as IMO they should.

For example, the stairways in the new HM update and part of the 60's computer scene in the updated SSE. It looks like they're using a very thin material that's reflective but it isn't flat like a regular mirror, so the effect is a bit lost.

Does anyone know what I mean? The sheets of material they're using aren't sitting completely flat, they have creases and varying levels of unevenness in places.

I don't see what the advantage is of using this material over regular mirrors unless it's maintenace?

The advantage of using the low grade looking stuff is for basically one reason:
So some kid doesn't decide to throw something and shatter glass all over riders. It's all about safety and seeing how people have to clean up spit and spit wads in the Haunted Mansions Ball Room Scene from time to time (not to mention that rumor that was going around the net of some rider throwing a rock in the ballroom and cracking on of the huge pieces of acrylic), Imagineers probably went with a fool proof material. Not to mention cost. I'm sure when you compare real mirrored class to what's there now the price was a lot more cost efficient.
