I have a fastpass set for the Mine Train but the interactive queue looks fun. Dies FP do it too? If not whens a good time to try to ride so there is a little wait but not like 2 hrs.
When does the interactive part start?

I would recommend doing the interactive queue, but it's hard to do it without waiting in a huge line. I suggest getting in line during or immediately after Wishes for the shortest line possible. On our last trip, we got in line for 7DMT right after Wishes but still had to wait almost 40 minutes. Still, it's the best strategy at this point if you wish to participate in the queue activities (which are pretty fun, IMO)

This might be a little off topic, but who else loved the music that can be heard once you get inside. It might be hard to hear, but I remember hearing the tune as you get closer to the Mine Carts.

I wouldn't recommend waiting 20+ minutes just to do the queue. It's not all that special and is only interactive in a few spots.

Late night EMH is often slower for the mine train...but that's in the off season. Never been during the summer, so it might be still very busy.

I'm looking forward to using the stand-by queue on our next trip. The first time we rode it we used fastpass, and I feel that we missed some of the good effects in the stand-by line!

It's pretty busy up until close. But if you hope in near closing the wait isn't bad and the queue is nice to see at least once. Once caveat, at least the 2 times we rode it in June they turn off the effects in the queue at park closing time. So, we got in line at 12:55 for a 1Am close and the effects turned off promptly at 1, even though we were still in line.

It happened both nights we rode at closing. I thought it was a bit odd that the CM's have to stay working until the queue is cleared, but the computers get to clock out and go home.

Agreed... it is really just something aimed keeping kids from going nuts while waiting not really anymore special than playing a game on your cell phone if you think about it.

I enjoyed going through the standby line to see the detail that has gone into it. The only thing I don't like about it is the games can hold up the line. I say do the line at least 1 time so you can see it, then just concentrate on FP+ :)

The effects were still working at 1:50 in the morning last Saturday night for EMH.
I should note, though, that we still ended up waiting half an hour or so to ride the thing during EMH, despite getting in line at 1:45 in the morning.

Summer EMH wasn't really all it was cracked up to be. So many attractions had been shut down due to staffing issues, including Splash and Thunder, that the queues for Space, Mine Train, and others were nearly as bad as they had been during the late afternoon, even with no fastpass reservations to slow them down. It wasn't at all the walk-on-and-ride fest that we had hoped it to be.

Turning off the effects- how can you see the 'possum or lava pits! Do they do this with other rides?

That would be disappointing! We usually go in the Fall or Feb/Mar time and that extra hour is pretty good for getting in several rides. We usually ride the mine train 2 or 3 times, then head over to SM for a couple of rides. I thought maybe the summer might be better than that.

Right - during EMH the effects were still on, since park closing wasn't until 3, They turned off at 1 for us on a non-EMH night (you can get in line until 1, and the ride operates until the queue is cleared out).

I'm sorry EMH wasn't great to you - in June we did nearly walk on everything at MK that late. Splash and Jungle Cruise (I think) were the only 2 rides not operating.
