Mile 20

It’s never too early for speculation. That why we’re here.

This intrigues me. What kind of surprise could they have that wouldn’t impede the progress of the runners? An A list singer/band maybe?

Of course not! :)

My first thought was some super-rare character...but I really have no idea what they think is "spectacular" enough to warrant mention in their new ad. But I'm looking forward to finding out!

Good idea to put something special at 20. That's where I stop caring.

Good point. When I ran the NY marathon, I hit the wall just before mile 20. I kept running, but I wound up going deep inside myself and did not see or hear anything that was going on around me until about mile 23. It was like I was running in a bubble. As a result, I have absolutely no recollection of running through any of the Bronx.

But seriously, I was suffering near the end of my first half ever on Marathon weekend. As I approached Epcot I turned a corner and saw Off Kilter on stage! Believe me, it helped a bunch and I finished strong. So something special at mile 20 is a great idea.

I have never hit the wall. I have always taken in nutrition from the first 40 minutes on and never had a problem. With that said, I really dont know if I hit the wall in Nashville or not. Same plan as always, but it was so hot, I dont know if it was just exhaustion or hitting the wall. I think I started off to fast that day and wasnt in good enough shape for that pace.

That is crazy thought Jill... you not remembering the last 10K. I would chalk this up as your body naturally blocking out bad parts of experiences (which I think happens), but I think in this case, you might have gotten in such a zone.... you lowered you mental senses and you actually dont recall it.
