Greetings all from the geeklabs

Kids will learn to "migrate" at Disney's Animal Kingdom on May 8
Date: 05/06/2004

Kids can learn about birds and their migratory patterns at the activity-filled International Migratory Bird Day at Disney's Animal Kingdom on May 8.

Seven "banding" locations throughout the theme park, the first of which is located at the main entrance, will highlight different aspects of birds, such as wing spans, colors, sizes and migratory patterns. Other locations include the Oasis, The Tree of Life, Camp Minnie-Mickey, the aviaries at Africa and Asia, and Rafiki's Planet Watch.

Kids will receive stickers, bird tattoos and International Migratory Bird Day buttons as they "migrate" to each location.

International Migratory Bird Day focuses on the 350 species of birds that migrate from breeding areas in North America to winter homes in Central and South America and the Caribbean. The day also focuses on the threat to migratory birds and what people can do to help.

The theme for this year's celebration is Conservation of Colonial Birds, which highlights the estimated one-in-eight bird species that nest together in colonies, and the many dangers that threaten their survival.

Sounds like a great educational thing for the kids...I love it when Disney does the small things to make a day at the parks more interesting for families.

In 2001 I interned at DAK as an animal presenter and did the "banding". It was a lot of fun and the kids seem to enjoy it.

They should have rare character day when all the rare characters are out and the well known ones take the day off. I'd plan a trip around it.

For some strange reason I keep picturing that scene from Hitchcock's "The Birds" where the school children are running for safety.

I am afraid of birds:eek:

Well, not really the birds, but the wonderful stuff that falls on ppls heads and clothes.

I have not yet been crapped on, but the thought of such an incedent fills me with anxiety.

If you even see me in the parks, you will notice I have a strange walking pattern (based on where the birds are, and where they may fly to) and I am constantly looking up and around.

I am not a freak, I just don't want to be crapped on.:)
