Might as well post this (Redone WDW Speedway)

I was meaning to post some kind of plan in this forum a while back to remodel the Walt Disney World Speedway. Being that it's been announced that the entire structure is likely going away, I figured I might as well share what I did, being that its chances of becoming reality just went from microscopic to zero.

The idea basically involved shortening the track (gray) to a little over half its original length so as to install permanent grandstands (blue), as well as building some new garages (not pictured). The new western set of turns would have been banked at 20 degrees for the sake of variation.

I never really developed the idea further, but I had started on an admittedly crude overhead picture to represent it...

What do you think? Would you have liked to see this or are you glad to see the track go?

I am glad to see the Race Track go. I am fan of Auto Racing and I did watch the first Indy Racing League race ever on television back in 1996.

What you created would have been a bad fit for Indy Car since the track was only 1 mile to begin with. Indy Cars are not designed to be on tracks around half a mile or close to it. Those type of cars are made for three fourths of a mile or more.

Walt Disney Speedway was used by Indycar back in the day more than NASCAR was. Your design didn't address the parking issues also. You track design would have been a great design for a NASCAR track, but I have a hard time seeing the people in charge of NASCAR having the cup series, the Truck Series, or the Xfinity Series give a race date to Walt Disney World Speedway despite your new design. The issue is the amount race tracks NASCAR already uses for those three series in Florida.

My problem with the track also is where it is because it caused a nightmare for parking and can't be used for racing purposes and the fact is the track is limited in when racing organizations could race up through 2000.

I think its time for it to go. The theming isnt good and the space could be very useful for other expansions from both fantasyland and Tomorrowland. If they were to keep a speedway like ride, build it around test track in Epcot so that the not- thrill attracted can enjoy the wonders of motion there as well

Different speedway....the OP is talking about the NASCAR / Richard Petty track outside of MK
