Micros/pos

Does anyone know what type of POS (point of sale) system WDW uses...As in MICROS or POSitouch...or the like. When I was there last it looked as though it was a MICROS system. The Hand Held Terminals looked mighty familiar. The reason I'm asking is I'm a Micros Hardware Technician and in New Orleans, work is scarce and Lay-offs appear to be coming, so I was inquiring if Disney has there own technicians to repair the terminals or if they are outsourced? I might just move down to Orlando, I know there are alot of restaurants in Orlando that uses MICROS. Just wondering if Disney was one of them.

I am almost certain WDW uses heavily modified versions of MICROS....

I'm surprised you aren't able to find work in Orlando in the Micros Hotel PMS areas, since quite a few hotels are using Opera and Fidelio in the area, and need local support.

It's not that my life itself is disrupted, I would of stayed in New Orleans forever with or without the hurricane it's the lay-off part that scares me.And no you don't sound rude.I know Orlando gets hurricanes also. It's the fact that lay-offs are immenent and I am just looking for another location, ahead of time, that deals with the same products I work on now. That and Disney rarely shuts down and always fairs pretty well.Just figured it would be a long shot, but Disney has sooo many restaurants and registers that if they were from MICROS I could easily work on them. And have a job for a while.

I've worked in various hotels that have made transitions in both their front desks and restaurants from other PMS/POS to Micros branded solutions, and almost every single person on the install/transition/training team was an Orlando local. The only person that I noticed came from anywhere else was from Arizona... so yeah, that's that.

and honestly, don't listen to what Merf says... he has a button pushing fetish. In Florida, Orlando is probably as safe as you'll get during a hurricane. We are 70 miles from the atlantic coast, and just over 100 from the Gulf Coast, and depending on which part of town you're at, the elevation ranges from 25 feet to 109 feet above sea level. Lastly, if you picj your neighborhood correctly (ie- somewhere on the Disney, I-Drive/Universal, or the Sea World/OCCC power grids), you won't los power during your hurricanes... I was on the WDW Power Grid on my old apartment in Hunters Creek, and we had power throughout the whole storms last year.

Feh - some people appreciate a non-fluffy voice of reason.

But if you're just moving to move for a new job, sure, FL is grand (though we never see snow except when Disney or the folks who live in Celebration make it). I just didn't want anyone who had their home flooded or blown away thinking we didn't have the same problems fairly frequently.

Orlando doesn't have those problems fairly frequently... prior to last year, we hadn't had that problem in 40 years. That isn't fairly frequently under any circumstance.

Florida in general - he could move anywhere in central Florida and work in Orlando.

And in meteorlogical terms that is extremely frequent.

I would agree with you, but I have this following quote

and now for this quote...

I spent the majority of my life living on an Island that has at least 1 hurricane pass through annually, if not more... yet people still live there and manage to thrive there. Now, I am not a meteorologist in any way (and I doubt you are either), but most people will probably not view 1 year out of 40 to be extremely frequent.
