Mickey's Christmas Party

The last time I attended Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party was about 9 years ago. I'll be taking my 7 year old daughter this year on the 5th and I was wondering if anyone out there can tell me if anything about the celebration has changed in the last 9 years. I don't remember much about which attractions were open or the entertainment, but I do remember the crowds were pretty light (I don't remember which night of the week it was). I looked on Disneyworld.com but they don't say much about what goes on.

We moved from SW Florida out here to Colorado last June, so my daughter's been pretty excited to have a white Christmas for a change. It turns out we will be moving back to Florida next month (St. Augustine - only 2 hours away from the World!) so she'll miss the holiday snow :(, but I figure snow on Main Street is the next best thing.

Any comments are appreciated. Thanks.

I’m not sure that these are changes but this is what goes on at Mickey's Christmas Party

Only a select few people can go into the park that night.
It usually 10-1pm I think

A select few rides are open- space mountain- splash – thunder- I think country bear- small world – some fantasy land

There are charismas shows going on – example Tomorrow land they had the reading of “the night before charismas”

At select areas like Tomorrow land – main street – and adventure land you can get a free picture

At select areas you can get hot coca and cookies ( both photos and snacks are free- WoW Disney something free)

At a certain time there is The Very Marry Christmas Parade

Basically, for the VMCP, MK is open from 7 p.m. to midnight (I'm really thinking that a few years ago it was open longer b/c I remember my son falling asleep just before 1 a.m. inside the park but anyway...).

You get to stand in line and get your family photo taken (one per family) and you also get all free cocoa and cookies you want at different locations. Not all the restaurants are open so it's best if you eat first before coming to the park. Believe me, it's well worth it.

As far as the rides, we've been going every year for the past three years and I don't recall any rides being closed. We are almost always in Fantasyland with our son (he'll be 4 next month) and all those rides are open.

Usually if you can avoid going to the first parade and just attending the 2nd parade, you are able to get on the rides you want right away...a lot of people walk into the park and then find spots to watch the parade. A lot of these people have young kids (us, we go for the 2nd parade just b/c it's less crowded).

As for the snow on Main Street, it's actually suds of bubbles that come down (my son figured that out last year after catching some on his tongue) but don't stick to the ground of course. It's very cool to be walking down Main Street at the MK in December with the suds falling down on you while you're walking towards the castle. Very cool.

We'll be down there attending the VMCP on 12/8 if anyone else is going that date! Hope to meet a few WDWers down there too!

Have a great time!!:sohappy:

The most noticable changes from a few years back are ....

3) They sell a LOT more tickets now than in the past, so it's pretty crowded

2) Cocoa and cookies are doled out in far fewer locations

And the worst wretched change IMHO.....

1) Icky grocery store cookies (:hurl: ) instead of the real thing!!!

The most crowded time to go to either the MVMCP or the MNSSHP are the weekends. And yes they are much more crowdd now than they were back then.

We've been going for the past 3 years on usually either the opening weekend or the 2nd weekend that they have the VMCP and although it has been more crowded the past two years, we haven't stood in any line for more than 10-15 minutes if that (if I recall correctly).

I don't care for the cookies either but my son and husband loves them. They're basically cookie monsters! Wish they'd have some chocolate chip cookies! Those, I like!

Last year, we went and froze our butts off (wore sweatshirts and light jackets) and my parents went down the following week and there was a heat spell and they walked around with dago-ts (after having gone out and bought sweatshirts for their trip since I told them that it would be chilly at night). Too funny, guess you can never tell what the weather is going to be like from one week to the next down in Orlando!:hammer:

The VMCP is a great thing to do, no matter if it's a sold out night or not. The whole atmosphere is just incredible! Let's hope there's a heat spell down there the time that we'll be going down! I don't want to bring lots of warm clothes...I'd like to leave them at home in Chicago instead!:D

Have a great time!
