Mickey's Backyard Barbeque

We are trying to plan our dinner reservations for our trip to WDW this summer and are thinking about trying the character dinner, Mickey's Backyard Barbeque. Has anyone been to this and how was it? It sounds fun for kids and adults and the menu looks great! Pork ribs, chicken, corn on the cob, baked beans...and all the beer you want (my husband and brother like that part)! Anyway, just wanted to get some feedback from someone who has done this.

We did the Backyard barbecue in November of 2004. An absoulte great time. The food was mediocre, and I didn't take advantage of the all-you could drink beer. But all in all, it was a great experience. Lots of dancing with the characters, time for photos and autographs, but mainly a dancing experience with the characters and your family that you don't get anywhere else at Disney. Or anywhere else that I have found. My daughter, five at the time, danced the locomotion with Minnie Mouse. Absolutely a great experience for her. The rest of the entertainment is nice, but its the interaction that made it a highlight of our trip.

If there is anything else I can answer or if I something I wrote doesn't make sense, let me know.

For the poster who wondered where the event was held. It is in an outdoor pavilion at the Wilderness resort.

I work there once in a while. If you like the standard bbq fare (corn on the cob, chicken, ribs, corn bread, watermelon, etc) it's good.
Don't be sure that Mickey and Minnie will pass by your table during meet and greets. The tables are long tables and benches, and it's difficult for them to get through.
The food is all right. But it's like any big company picnic bbq food.

Thanks for the posts! I have gotten mixed reviews about it. Our kids loved the character meals we had last year (Liberty Tree Tavern, Breakfast at Cinderella's Royal Table) so we thought we would do some different ones this year. The food and atmosphere sounds good, so maybe we will try it!

It is a lot of fun. The food was good for BBQ fare and all the beer or wine you can drink. When the characters come out it is pandemonium. All of the kids start running and the parents start pushing to get the kids in. We were concerned about my 5 year old getting trampled when we went there. I think it would be much better if there was a little more control during the BBQ.

I will go back again. So don't miss the experience. At least try it once.

The BBQ is held in the picnic pavillion for River Country. The easiest way to get there is by water shuttle to Fort Wilderness. Exit the dock and got right all the way to the gate for RC and wait till they let you in. Get there early because seating is first come first serve. In a large family you could get separated if you are late.
