We have a South Jersey thread, why not a Michgan one!?!

I know there are a lot of us on the board. I'm in southwest michigan, about 2 hours from chicago, 40 minutes from Kalamazzo, and 40 minutes from South Bend, IN

Ok heres my input. Yes I think there is a least 6 or 7 of us. (I know of 1 other in Royal Oak even I think.) Sorry my typing is bad, I slammed my fingers in the filling cabnet today at work, ouch. I didn't realize how much you use your right pointer finger until now.:hammer:

Anyway, back to the Michigan thread, it is 80 degrees out in Detroit today and I am in at work!!!!!

Ok heres my attempt to bring this thread back to life.

WHAT HAPPENED? It was in the 40's today. 2 days ago it was in the 80's. I ran my AC all last week and today the heater was on and I started up the gas fire place! Gotta love Michigan. Someone on T.V. talked about snow, but I just tooned out! Can't even think about that!:lol:

I'll take a shot at answering your question. I'm guessing that a few days ago there was a strong southerly flow at the 850 level. Since this area of the continent is open without any major obstacles (mountains, big lakes, oceans, etc), it was able to heat up relitively quickly. At that time there was no resistance from the Canadian or Siberian air masses, so it just stayed hot for a couple of days and gave everybody a taste of summer. Recently a cold front (hence the cold temps) passed through the area, and another system is approaching. This new low pressure system may bring some slightly warmer temps to lower Michigan and upper Ohio, but those will disappear quickly. This new system may not bring a lot of rain to Michigan, but there is the possibility of snow occuring on the backside of the low. It just depends on the temps aloft, the winds, and availability of moisture. Those living around Chicago, Detroit, and areas near the Great Lakes may experience some good ol' lake effect snow. Remember that it's still too early to tell, and the forecast is quite likely to change.

As a former resident of Roseville, MI and Canton, MI, I can say only two thing: Go Blue! and Go Red Wings!

Really??!!! Wow!! I had heard those stories, but found it hard to believe them! My friend from Flint told me he was melting two days ago with temps in the 80´s and now you tell me it is snowing?? still?? Crazy.... :hammer:

Thanks for the info howlin mad, but it doesn't help. Just have to wait it out!

As for being an honorary Michigander, sure works for me. As long as I get to be an honorary Flordian!!!!!!!
