Who do you wish to see take over control of the Magic Kingdom from Michael Eisner ?

BOB IGER, president and chief operating officer of the Walt Disney Company and a television industry veteran.

Mel Karmazin, the former chief operating officer at Viacom, who began his career in radio, wants to head an entertainment conglomerate. Options are limited because many of the top jobs at companies such as Time Warner and The News Corporation, parent company of The Times, are taken. But he is seen as the top external contender for Mr Eisner’s job.

Meg Whitman, the chief executive of eBay and former Disney executive, is respected on Wall Street and while she is said to enjoy heading the internet auction company, she could be tempted by an offer to lead one of the world’s largest media companies. Her experience of the internet and knowledge of consumer tastes would be an asset.

Steve Burke, 44, spent 12 years at Disney, where he ran the ABC network, launched the Disney stores and revived Euro Disney after its poor start. He fell out with Mr Eisner in 1998 and moved to Comcast, which made a failed $62 billion bid for Disney this year. At Comcast he controls the cable business, which has trebled its subscribers to 21 million since he joined.

Jeff Bewkes, veteran Time Warner executive and head of the networks and entertainment group, is considered to be the likely heir to Richard Parsons, the chief executive. But Mr Parsons shows no signs of heading for the exit and it is thought that Mr Bewkes could be lured from New York to Burbank, California, where Disney is based.

I dunno...but...I can eliminate two names from my list...Iger and Burke...Iger because he's Eisner's number one henchman, and Burke is connected to Comcast (can't risk future merger activity)....

I'm not familiar with the rest of 'em...so like Grizz...I gotta research...Meg Whitman is an interesting possibility....

There have to be more candidates out there though...

NONE:

BOB IGER, been with the Eisner Dynasty to long.

Mel Karmazin, can build a radio company (look at infinity) but what would he do with theme parks, etc. Look at NBC Uni already sold Uni Spain.

Meg Whitman, not a bad choice but Disney is very diverse ebay isn't. She problably would do good for the company buying out competition like PIXAR and Dreamworks as she did with half.com and paypal, but not sure how she would run all the units of Disney. (but if I had to choice one she would be it)

Steve Burke, one word- "COMCAST"

Jeff Bewkes, don't want anyone from Time Warner, don't trust any of them. Also same as Karmazin what about the Theme Parks and traditional Disney themes Eisner isn't doing a good job but TW doesn't do anything better.

Steve Jobs, as much as I like him I don't want him. He is good at managing smaller companies like Apple and Pixar, but Disney is different. Also with this Disney/Pixar fight it shows he has a big head (sounds like Disney's CEO). Also jobs seems to be creative but makes the companies nice targets. (rumors Sony eyeing Apple and Sony, TW, and Dis PIXAR).

I think Disney new CEO will be _________?
Not sure yet but still looking.

What about Yahoo!'s Terry Semel?

I might actually give a nod to Steve Burke. I know a lot of people hate Comcast, but ddoes anyone think it may have been the backing he needed to get into that position? I am still somehwat suspicious that Comcast never had any intention of actually holding on to Disney.

Quite frankly I am not impressed with any of the choices. Who else is out there? I think Disney has enough pull that it can get who they want.

But wouldn't Burke and Roberts (I think Comcast CEO) probably marry to to compaines? Also I think Comcast really wanted Dis. But we would have been truly upset with what they would do to them. They only wanted the Cable, ABC, and Studios the rest of Disney would have been left up in the air.

I think Comcast only really wanted some of the cable holdings, ESPN, a good distribution deal, and maybe Some of the live action. My personal suspicion (pure hypothesis) is that the whole intention from the start was Comcast would buy them up, take those things, and then spin off Disney with the Parks, Vation holdings, Animation, some of the live action, and the merchandise, with Burke running the show. Comcast I think is too scared of becoming too big, and Roberts is unique in the industry in that he is willing to let things go. I think it is pretty clear Burke has no place to go for a while, and this would be a way for him to get somethign and not make enemies.
