March 4 (Bloomberg) -- Michael Eisner won't step down as chief executive officer of Walt Disney Co. or set a date to leave the company a day after shareholders withheld 43 percent of their votes to re-elect him to the board, the Wall Street Journal reported on its Web site.
Disney has done the right thing for shareholders by splitting the jobs of chairman and chief executive, which Eisner both held until yesterday, he said in an interview with the newspaper.
Eisner, 61, declined to address speculation that the lack of shareholder support will make it difficult for him to serve out his contract which ends in September 2006, the newspaper said. Nor would he say whether he wants to stay at Disney beyond that date, the newspaper reported.
George Mitchell, who was named chairman of Burbank, California-based Disney, also told the Journal that the board's reaction was appropriate. Some shareholders told Mitchell they withheld their votes because they wanted Disney to change its management, the newspaper reported.

Well, this isnt suprising. With Disney fending off Comcast right now, Eisner's resignation might send a sign of weakness to Wall Street and public perception as a whole. While we've won a battle, it doesn't mean squat if Comcast comes in and storms the castle while we're anointing a new king.

IMO, once Comcast is driven away (or put on hold while they await the next available customer service represenative), THEN Eisner will be out.

As for the vote, i believe that only 87% of the shares have been tallied. It can still swing a few percentage points in either direction. Eisner might be waiting that out to see if the percentage drops any. Even if all 13% voted No, Eisner was reelected. Im thinking that his time will come soon. Two weeks once Comcast goes away.....

The man just can't accept the fact that most of us shareholders don't want him anymore and he needs to just leave. I do agree with PhotoDave219 though, maybe after Comcast goes away some progress can be made.

I mean what can you possibly say to describe the DISGUST one feels about Eisner. No sense of honor. No sense of shame. Stubborn until the bitter end.

And I think he's right to stay put, not being chased away by a senile old man, who lost any sence of reality a long time ago...

I say repeat this saying with the utmost respect.
