Ran over to MGM yesterday and noticied a few things....
Mickey and the spinning globe are still missing from the enterance.
Cast Members were playing little games with all of the kids through out the park. Playing with hula-hoops, jump ropes, balls, etc.... They were usually doing it near long lines, is this something new, I haven't seen it before?
Wow, Star Tours needs to be updated. Has anyone else noticed that the exit hallway from the rides to Traders is too small? I never realized how small it was, until all 5 vehicles released at the same time....
The new archway looks really, really good....nice job....
Now, the big change(s)....there were several things that we noticed were different about the performance of Fantasmic (7:30 show).
It appeared that they were testing several new effects and I think they had mixed results and a lot of technicial glitches...
The Bad:
Some of the new lighting showed way too much of the stage. You could clearly see the crew placing and removing the smaller props and individual pyro effects. You could clearly see the platform that raises Maleficent, it appeared that the new lighting was not following Maleficent (as she went up) quick enough. You could clearly see the framework for the Maleficent dragon (of course, the smoke effect was not on, so that probably did not help any).
I know that some of the pyro effects either miss-fired or did not go off properly. The Jafar snake didn't move and one of it's eyes were out. But, those didn't bother me, it happens.
I always thought the three platforms were free floating driven buy someone, if they aren't, there were issues. The "Ariel" float's timing was off, some times it was too fast and other times it was too slow. It also almost hit the other two platforms.
They must have had a lot of new cast members working the show, because alot of the timing seemed to be off for most of the show. The canoe's were way late and that threw off the fight sequence. Most of the platforms seemed to be a little off on their timing also.
Also, the cast members on the Steamboat Willie float didn't have their steamer's. It was missing a little, but unless you've seen it alot (approx once a month for me) you wouldn't have noticed.
Ok, enough bashing, time for the new:
It appears that they redid all of the costumes and painting for the dancing animal sequence. Everything was so bright and colorfull, looked really good!
It also appeared that there were new touches to Maleficent and the Dragon. More "sparklies" as my wife put them and the laser effects for the Dragon looked better also.
Some of the new lighting effects were pretty good and did allow you to see some of the characters better, they may just need to focus on the characters a little better. They also seemed to have more laser effects, especially when Mickey set's off the sword at the Dragon.
They had a new Tinkerbell sequence, it looked alot crisper than the old one. I also think they did some work on the Monstro video, it looked alot better also.
Overall, pretty good, especially if you haven't seen it before or in a long time. My wife loves the show, so we see it about once a month, so we notice more of those type of things. But hey, for us, if the Dragon is working properly (and we have seen it when the Dragon wasn't working and once when it broke down in the middle of the sequence), we don't care, great show!
