Fans of author T.A. Barron's Lost Years of Merlin series will be happy to know that the planned movies have just been picked up by the Disney Studios. A release date has not been announced as of yet but finally a wonderfully told collection of books will see the big screen!

Information can be found here at T.A. Barron's site:

Here’s the big news: The Merlin movie project recently moved to a new studio – Disney. At Disney, it’s had a wonderfully enthusiastic reception – and I am greatly impressed with the professionalism and passion of everyone involved. Best of all, Disney has assembled a truly terrific team!

We have a fabulous producer, Gil Netter. Among other films, he produced Life of Pi, The Blind Side, and Ghost. In addition, the project has attracted a pair of outstanding writers, Patrick Massett and John Zinman, whose credits include Tomb Raider as well as the hit television series The Blacklist.

We still have much hard work to do … but with this terrific team in place, I am very encouraged. And the leader of our team, as always, is Merlin himself. He continues to inspire us all!

You know, I always complain about Hollywood not having any new ideas. Witness the zillion remakes of classic movies. So I thought this would be great. Until I realized it's YA. I guess at least it's not young vampires in love.

Haven't read these. Are they any good? Considering I wasn't too impressed with JKR and Harry, wondering where Barron falls.

But then I think, where is Battletech:3050 or Wheel of Time? Horseclans, a kickass Dresden? Jeez, if the Hobbit can be 3 movies . . .

Yes the dozens and dozens of remakes is truly an annoying habit going on in Hollywood right now! And yes there have been many renditions of the Merlin story made for the big and small screens but I think the world is really going to enjoy T.A. Barron's take on the story. I have read the 5 books of the Lost Years and the 3 books of the Tree of Avalon series that continues the story of Merlin though I do not believe they will be featured in the movie and can tell you I was very impressed. Barron is an amazing author from Colorado who is/was a professor at Colorado University in Boulder CO and tours the country talking at engagements at schools and writer conventions. He has written many books but is most notable for his fantasy fiction especially the Heartlight series and the 12+ books about Merlin and the other characters that surround the great wizard. I know I may sound a little obsessed but these are just some of the reasons I consider him one of my favorite authors. I hope you get a chance to check out his works and enjoy them as much as I have.

Well, the American remake of "Let the Right One In" was pretty well received, and... uh... ooh! True Grit. But I see your point. There aren't many good remakes. But, it's not like the original stuff from Hollywood is that much better. Jack & Jill, looking at you....
