Meniscus Surgery

I am just wondering if any of you have had a torn meniscus and needed surgery. I was just told that I have torn my meniscus and most likely would require surgery. If any of have had a similar experience please let me know. I am really nervous about going under the knife.

Its a very common surgery. Its usually done arthoscopically (band aid surgery). Both my brother & sister have had it done. Recovery & rehab times vary, but its usually quick. If you have any questions or concerns talk to your doctor, but I can tell you this...it hurts more NOT to have it done.

Meniscal surgery is not too bad. I am about to graduate from physical therapy school and I have treated many people with torn meniscus, and after surgery. The one thing I find is that everybody recovers at different speeds from this surgery.
In addition I had knee surgery a few years ago, for a torn ligament. It was hard in the first few days and of course its scary going under the knife, but a relief when you wake up and the hard part is over.
Hopefully you are having some physical therapy before surgery? It is good to have as good motion as you can in your knee, that can help when you are working on moving after surgery.

You'll be okay, good luck!
