Memory Card Q's

Hello... I have a 3.2 MP digital camera that uses a SD memory card, and I am looking to purchase a larger one for my WDW trip. I am wondering what brand and type is the best to get. How many pictures can I get with a 256 MB card? Would you recommend a larger one than that? I am planning on only taking around 100-200 pictures on the 3rd best resolution (their are four on my camera). Thanks!!!

3.2mp on a 256 card should get you, depending on camera settings, 300+ pictures. More than likely over 400.

Brands I suggest: Sandisk and Lexar

Thanks, MKT! I have heard bad things about both, so I was hoping you would tell me one!

I heard that SanDisk looses pictures and that Lexar cards little tab breaks... which one do you have??? :animwink:

I use a 256 mb CF card with my 3.2 megapixel camera, and have no problems with space. For the number of photos you mention, you should be good to go with 256, with plenty of room to spare.

And I gotta second the reccommendation for SanDisk. I have one and have never had any problems with losing photos.

I guess I'll be the first one to not recommend SanDisk. As mkt said, they sometimes lose pictures, and trust me, it has happened to me. I can't even count how many good pictures I've lost.

After that incident, I only bought Fujifilm and Lexar, and those worked perfectly.

Thank goodness I only have to use a Memory Stick from Sony now with my new 5.1mp camera. :D

Hi CrazyGirley,

Our 3.2 digital camera (Canons230) takes Compact Flash cards, we have a few. We got a 256 at cost co for around 50$ (SanDisk) , the price keeps going down. I have never had any problems with the cards at all, and we taken 1,000 of 1,000's of pictures. We can get well over 350 pictures on the 256 card.

Three Words: Lexar, Lexar, Lexar.

I swear by them, plus you get their image rescue software with it free. Which rocks. A 256MB card should work. You dont need the 40x write speed cards, basic ones should do you well. 512 cards would give you about 300 pics at a higher resolution. Every pro i know uses those. The only SanDisk ones that are worth a salt are the Extreme brand ones - and you dont need one of those.

Stay away from off-brands. They're unreliable.

Also if you need to burn stuff to a CD from your memory card, you can do that at Expo Hall at the MK.

Hi all. Love my new Olympus C5000, thanks again to all for your input. The Olympus uses a x-D picture card. Need to purchase a bigger card before vacation next week. Which do you suggest? Reading above I see that SanDisk has lost pictures for some of you, was that only on the SD type card or all of their products? Thanks for any help. Nancy

be sure to check techbargains.com for deals on compact flash cards. amazon runs them all the time with big rebates. not to mention the prices of CF cards just keeps dropping. personally, i use viking cards and lexar. viking are my everyday shooting cards, and lexar when it matters (if that tells you anything). i've only had a problem with one of the viking cards once (knocks on wood), i had to reformat the card but didn't loose much (eeek, much).

I have used SanDisk, Viking and Lexar. All pretty much have done well for me but I did have one bad Viking card. I read they made a bad batch about a year back but they gave me a new one. All of mine are CF cards but I would think the quality would still be there.

Amazon does have good deals quite often so watch for them. Also as mentioned by others, prices keep droping so don't be surprised or upset if you purchase and then a month later the price is lower. It is just the way it is. Watch for a sale and jump.

alright.. question of the night:

Has anyone at all used the SanDisk extreme series? I seriously looking into it after reading about their heat testing (needed for FL... I had one of my empty cards fry today in the car cause I didn't realize it was there), and the faster write speeds are definitely a plus.

I have two SanDisk 256MB Extreme Compact Flash cards (for the Nikon CoolPix 4300). I've been very pleased with them. I bought them here (good price and free shipping too):
