Pulled out an old black and white photo of my father, when he was in the Navy. I'm still very proud of him. (He passed away years ago.) Yet, it does give me some comfort on this Memorial Day weekend, realizing he knew that he made his own contribution to protect the freedoms that we all enjoy.

Your post made me smile. My dad was a WWII veteran, and I recently inherited some of his war medals and other personal items. I took them out today just to honor his memory and I was just so proud of him. He never talked about his experience in Europe, but I know it must have been so hard for him as a young father fighting in the infantry so far away from home.
