Media event to start 50th in May?

I wondered if anyone knew if DL is having a media event or grand opening for the start of the 50th anniversary on May 5, to kick it off.

WDW had a big event to kick off their 25th in 1996, with a special taped for The Disney Channel and a big parade (with 1076 trombones), with celebrities.

Anyone know anything yet about such a plan for DL's 50th?

I was looking at Disneyland's official website and it looks as if they're having an event on the 4th of May. I'm suprised because I thought Disneyland was suppose to be closed that day to finish preparing for the big bash. You can check it out here: www.disneyland.com/ap:

Will there be a special on TV (including the Disney Channel)? It seems like Disney doesn't use the "Disney" Channel for this type of thing any more, although I loved the special that they did for the WDW 25th.

They should do the special live, like Walt did on opening day.... If he could pull it off in 1955, you'd think that they could in 2005 (since they now own the very network that the opening special appeared on).
