Walt once said, "Here in Florida, we have something special we never enjoyed at Disneyland...the blessing of size. There's enough land here to hold all the ideas and plans we can possibly imagine."
That said, even in the enormity of the Walt Disney World resort, we do run into cases where capacity needs to be increased and space goes wasted.
I challenge everyone to find ways to maximize space and increase capacity at the 4 parks, 2 water parks, and main shopping district that WDW has to offer. Here's where it gets tricky. Imagineers love the idea of blue sky and plenty of space to work with, but you won't always have that.
Without creating new lands or using expansion pads, how would you maximize the current space used at WDW? Remember, capacity doesn't just count in ride capacity, but also in restaurants, parade/spectacular viewing, and even down to stroller parking. You are more than welcome to replace existing attractions, shows, restaurants, shops and facilities, but your goal is to increase capacity in areas not re-purpose it. As a final challenge, backstage infrastructure, restrooms, and delivery access should be taken into consideration and should never completely disappear, but be relocated somewhere.
So, do you have what it takes? What area would you tackle first? Here are just a few ideas to get those juices flowing:
-Reimagineering Adventureland- Crowded pathways, limited stroller parking, popular attractions among tired attractions, a seasonal restaurant, and unused spaces. How would you reimagineer Adventureland to increase capacity and solve these issues?
-A Future World of Possibilities- Future World is home to some of the most wasted space in Epcot from Wonders of Life, The Oddessy building, Journey into Imagination, and Innoventions. Taking into account the yearly festivals and the need for flex space for them, how would you still increase capacity in Future World without building a new pavilion to destroying Epcot's green spaces. Does it come down to bringing in new attractions or does it go much more beyond that?
-Putting Excitement Back into Show Business- While Studios may be on the verge of a major overhaul and expansion, what if you were only assigned to reused and increase capacity on what already existed? Studios crowd patterns shift heavily to Sunset Blvd during the evening, how would you maximize the rest of the park and even out crowds? Shows shows and more shows, but how would you even out the roster of attractions and shows without major expansion.
Let's see what you got.
