Lets say the Swiss Pavilian eventually gets built. Well, that would be good, and there is probably one thing that would be definite in the Pavilian.
Even though riding down a bobsled on the Matterhorn does not make sense, it does covey the idea of both Disney and Switzerland. So, the idea would work well in epcot.
The thingis now the actual ride. If it were to have the same seating as Space Mountain, wouldn't people consider it a clone as they do with the original Space Mountain and the original Matterhorn (even though they are completly different). Well, that would be a problem. The WDW version would need its own identity to help establish the ride as something new and exciting. Another problem is that the ride could not be a high speed, high profile mountain with a yeti or people would say it is a clone of Everest. Another thing is the WDW fan's demand for an educational experience. And then there are those who don't want a thrill ride yet those who do. I was recently thinking of this, and I believe I might have come up with a solution that fits everybody's needs.
To get the idea to work, the entire swiss pavilian would be about 5 feet higher than the rest of World Showcase, it would be similiar to how Canada is. Anyway, the line and station would be in a series traditional Swiss cottages with exploration gear and other cool stuff. When guests reach the station, they will notice that they are boarding boats, but they look like the bobsleds.
Each car will feature 12 people. There will be 4 rows of 3 with each chair back being about an inch higher than the previous. When the car leaves the station, it slowly floats down a river at the base of the mountain before entering a cave. Here, darkride scenes explain the exploration and history of Switzerland, the scenes go by much like on El Rio Del Tiemp and Maelstrom until the car makes a turn into a set of doors. The onboard audio will then make this statement: "Yet the most recognisable and most adventurous landmark in Switzerland is the Matterhorn".
The doors then swing open and guests see the Mountain Rising high above them. The boat moves forward and enters a dark cave where it starts moving up at a steep angle. Slowly the car rises (and guests may notice that they are on coaster track instead of water), and soon, the car reaches the top. It slowly inches forward before moving to a smooth relaxing glide weaving in and out of the mountainwork.
It has been all smooth and relaxing the whole ride so far yet fun and exciting. But halfway through, the car hits some LSMs and has a boost to around 60 mph. The car then makes nice and wide turns around the moutain's lower half and soon leaves to large forested areas around the base (service road moved?). The turns are still gradual and smooth but the feeling speed carries a nice sense of excitement. Soon, the car makes a nice leftward fan-turn and dives into the water... Even though there isn't a big drop, a nice and large splash is made from the car's speed. The water from the splash isn't very big but it is enough to cool down guests for the day but not enough to have guests soaked.
The whole ride itself would be thrilling, yet relaxing and calm. It would allow little kids to ride and yet not be considered kiddy. Because most the the track would be hidden, and the turns are gentle, I think the people who can ride BTMRR would be able to ride the Matterhorn.
