Matt Reeves Metroid Trilogy Open Brainstorming

Calling on @Tegan pilots a chicken. I can't get this idea out of my head. Let's make it a reality! I've long since thought Metroid makes a ton of sense as a movie with how atmospheric the series is, but after seeing The Batman the ideas in my head for a potential trilogy are really crystallizing for me. Tegan, I'm counting on you to be the Lore expert in this project, as I really don't know a ton about it beyond the basic concepts for the series.

The big core with my idea of the trilogy is that it would take place in three super distinct settings and have different vibes and tones to them. I think Reeves has proven that while his films are often bleak in tone (which is obviously appropriate to Metroid) he's able to work with a ton of different settings and is a bit of a modern master of world-building. With that in mind, I throw out the three films.

Metroid: Zero Mission - Taking on an alien planet setting, this very simple first film in the series is pretty much just Samus on her first mission to defeat the Mother Brain. We definitely get some lore building about the Chozos and the Federation Force, but they'll remain largely in the background. This will be a "Gravity" type film that's pretty much all atmosphere and world-building anchored on the singular character of Samus.

Metroid Hunters - The "Bladerunner" of the series, taking place in a futuristic dystopian sci-fi city. I'm very much taking inspiration from The Batman here. I'm thinking the whole film could take place over the course of one night with Samus tracking down a serial killer who has been systematically offing fellow bounty hunters. We'd get much more development on the Federation Force this time around, and we'd begin to bring in a larger cast of characters.

Metroid Fusion - This is basically a hybrid of Dredd and Fusion, with Samus fighting against Dark Samus as well as being hunted down by the EMMIs. This would be the ultimate culmination of Samus's character, the literal battle for her soul. Much like Caesar in the Apes trilogy and what Pattinson's Batman is shaping up to be like, I really want Samus to be a character that absolutely anchors the series in a really stand-out way, have the whole trilogy be one big immersive POV into her inner demons while giving us some really juicy atmosphere along the way.

Alicia Vikander as Samus?
