Yeah, he was a funny guy. All those great comedians of that era are disappearing. I was just talking to a friend the other night about Johnny Carson and Dean Martin and how great their shows were because people could be wickedly funny and risque without being crude. Aw, well. Sad to lose another one. :(

I was about to post this myself, before I found this thread. Charles Nelson Reilly was a true comic genius. In fact, Match Game host Gene Rayburn (who is no longer with us as well) stated that he captured the spirit of the show, as a whole. CNR was truly one of a kind, and there probably will never will be another like him. My condolences go to his fans, family, and friends, especially his MG sidekick Brett Somers.

RIP old friend :(

Yes, I remember Lidsville. A very crazy show, fun and yet a little wacky like a lot of those '70s children's shows. Was it a Sid and Marty Krofft production, like "H. R. Puffnstuff"?

Wow, good memories. And, yes, I also agree with dopey that entertainers from that era were actually better at being funny and witty and even risque without being crude. They didn't need the vulgarity or hurtfulness toward others that many of today's performers seem to need.

I remember that guy from Match Game. He smoked a pipe or something like that, always was goofing with the lady Brett, and had the Elton John glasses before Elton lol.:) May he rest in peace. I also must agree that a lot of the folks from when I was a kid are passing quickly these days, yea I grew up in the 70's and was a teen in the mid 80's. Damn I'm getting old, I hate it too. But that realization came along when guys in their 20's started calling me sir!

Ah, Charles Nelson Reilly...

You will be forever remembered (by me) as the character Jose Chung on The X-Files. It was only one stand-alone episode, but he was so funny! He played an author who was looking to write a non-fiction science-fiction based on a suspected alien abduction case Mulder and Scully were working on.

You will be missed! :(

Charles was always funny on Match Game and other game shows, and on Carson and Dean Martin. He was also terrific on kiddy shows like Lidsville, The Flintstones (in the 1980's ,not the original) and SpongeBob Squarepants, where he was the voice of The Dirty Bubble ,archenemy of Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy. In that toon The Dirty Bubble asks, Barnacle Boy "Still getting burned on that tailpipe ,huh Barnacle Boy?". And then the laugh like we would hear on MG. And then Spongebob discovers the Dirty Bubble trapping MM and BB and saying to SB "You cannot save them Sponge of misery they are trapped by my awesome surface tension". Then a minute later SB pops with a pencil tip after asking if he can get his autograph. And DB says "Oh, no stay back you fool, watch the point, watch the point, ow". And SB frees MM and BB.

Goodbye Charles, we will miss you . Thanks for all the fun and laughs . You wer eone (BLANK) of a guy.
