Master Plan

Upon talking to a few people on the Disney Construction bored in recent weeks, they have let me in on a few secrets, and plans for the future of The Disney World Resort. Firstly, Disney has aquired more land than it has let on it owns. Right now it says it owns around 49 square miles, yet this number is actually higher. The current plan right now is for Disney to eventually build 7 theme parks. ( No date was given for how long this would take to be completed, but one can guess that it will be a very long time. Secondly, Diseny has been planning for an aditional 13 resorts on their property. Another interesting fact that he told me was that Disney is only using 10% of their land right now! I found that fact to be amazing! Okay well, thats what I have found out so far, as soon as I find out more, you guys will be the first to know!

plans

I agree with the land issue. You are correct on that. They are only using approximately 10% of their land. However, not all of that land can be used to build on. Some is lake and marshland.

About the building 7 parks and 13 resorts eventually, let me just say that regardless of their plans, it comes down to money. Disney has some busted ventures, one being in Paris that put them back financially a little. Ok, alot. Also I hear California Adventure isn't making the money they wanted. Also, AK is still YEARS from being close to completion. Note: AK opened up as basic as they could, the park is not nearly at completion of it's original project plans.

To build those extra parks would take decades upon decades at the rate things are going.

Also, if they were to do these extra projects I guess I'd never be able to go back because the admission prices would be over $100 per single day ticket.

I do remember hearing that they only use a small portion of the land. In an interview with the Travel Channel a head imagineer said that they will "continue to grow." There is so much land to build on, yes it has a lot of marsh etc. but you can do amazing things with marsh...lol

We can only dream i suppose.

Thread drift, had Comcast purchased Disney, would they keep disney as the company name?

Yes they would keep the Disney name.

Also, I live in a county that shares approx. 50% of it's acreage with the Florida Everglades and I can tell you that really lights marshes are workable SOMETIMES but really in Florida there's not much you can do, and if you can it takes MILLIONS of dollars to get it workable.

Ok back to the topic now.

Oh I fully am aware that those were Walt's plans, but, it's just not realistic anymore. The economics of the company have been changed completely from what Walt originated. I'm not saying it won't happen one day but it will be decades away because they're taking forever to get AK going. Also, like I said earlier the price of admission would be more than the middle income family could afford.

Well, no one said that they were going to build anything any time soon.
And nothing like planning for the future especially if land prices continue to rise.
They could do alot with the extra land besides theme parks and resorts, including selling it if land prices are at a premium.

?

I swear to you. I am not joking. If they ever bought Disney and changed Walt's vision more than Eisner has already, I will never go again.

I don't think i'd like a WDW with 7 major parks and 13 additional resorts. What about traffic problems as just one issue. Could they attractenough people to visit all 7 parks and keep occupancy high enough to break even in all these resorts and still keep ticket prices affordable?

No to all of your questions.

I agree with you.

First off, I am telling you, even if this happens 20 years from now, because of staffing among every other expense, Disney World will become unaffordable for the common man. Years ago before MGM Studios and AK, park admission was in the $25.00 range. Now it's much higher, doubled.
There's no way the middle income family could afford to go if that happened which would hurt attendance to begin with.

Then again, if they had 7 parks at peak times they still could not fill them all up to make profit. It's just not feasable in today's society and the way the company is set up.

I'm sure they have alot more development land available than people think. Why would they buy so much unworkable land that you guys are making out ? When the parks recover expansion will always be sought, obviosuly this isn't in the short term, but long term, perphaps even over 50 years!

However, i want new waterparks too!

I don't think 7 parks would be a good thing. You couldn't see everything.
I would like to see one more park, then maybe smaller 1/2 day parks. A highly themed Discovery Bay sort of 1/2 day park, some carnival rides added to the Board Walk, a New Water Park. But only one more Theme Big Park.

First of all, responding to the person who would like more 1/2 parks. I disagree completely, respectfully of course. They are too expensive for only a 1/2 day of use.

The reason that they bought so much land was because of Walt himself. Walt was offered an opportunity to buy alot of land for cheap (for the amount of land in the deal it was cheap).

In June of 1965 he bought 27,258 acres for only $5,018,770.00

that's relatively cheap for over 27,000 acres. The reason he got it for the price was because much of it was marsh. In fact, they created lakes and dried out others by creating their own drainage system.

In fact, in 1965, the land that the MK sits on today was under about 2 feet of water. They drained the land out by creating man made water run off systems through the property which consisted of man made canals, that were winded to purposely look like natural rivers. When they created this run off system, it dried out the land that MK sits on today. I have pictures of all of the before and afters in 1965. It is amazing.

the thing is...............today this would not be feasable because of several reasons. First of all, the rest of the marshland to be dried would use pretty much be impossible because they would not be able to create all of the extra man made water run offs because they would interfere with current parks. Also, Walt did not take profits from his parks and put them in his wallet, he turned around and used them for even bigger things in his parks. In today's society, CEo's take that money and create nice bonuses.

Actually, I think having 7 parks would be a good idea. It would give people a reason to stay longer, and for people to return more often. This would only work of course if Disney could keep the price down or start offering things at par more often.

That would be cool except the price WONT stay down.

Hey, I'd go for 10 parks if I could still pay the same price. More money spent means higher prices. It's the law of business.
