Massive Beehive in Main Street Tree

Quick MK update: today, one of the trees along Main Street at MK (between the bakery and Confectionary) was roped off (along with CMs guarding the area) because there was a massive beehive near the top of the tree. The roped off area was fairly small at mid-afternoon but became much larger by the evening fireworks.

The beehive appeared to be over a foot long, with many bees flying around the outside of the hive at times. I did not have the camera with me at the time, so no photos.

One of the CMs said Pest Management was supposed to resolve the issue by opening tomorrow.

On another note, crowds seemed to be a bit lighter at MK and AK today than the past few days.

Canadian Spring Break ended today, so might explain the decline in crowds. I know the years we took the kids down there during it, the parks were CRAZY busy!

I think Disney really dropped the ball on this one. The bee-hive really clashes with the theme of Main Street and obviously belongs in Fantasyland forest, near Winnie the Pooh...

LOL - At Six Flags New England 2 summers ago, the place was infested with bees the whole summer. Too bad they don't have the same pest control team that Disney does.

I've seen similar things happen in California. I know nothing about the construction of a beehive though, how quick does a hive like this show up?

Prolly swarm, not hive. Hope they got the queen bee and relocated her rather than kill the bees.

Unless things have changed since I worked there...ummmm....let's just say over 10 years ago :lookaroun (and we all know the could have changed) then they would have relocated them.

I had a swarm appear at the Canadian Pavilion in the merch tent, it was opening time and I could hear the buzzing as I went to roll the flaps up and got my manager who called pest control. It was actually quite an interesting process to watch as they found the queen, smoked the bees, gathered them in a wooden box and carted them off.

At that time I was told they relocate them somewhere near the Osprey Ridge golf course, in what is now the Bonnet Creek Nature Reserve area, I believe

Actually, I'm pretty sure it was also F&G time that we had a lot of bees - maybe that's when they plan their Disney vacation

HAHAHAHHA!!

I heard they were going to replace it with a fake one and put a strobe light on it to simulate movement.

I hope they relocated them and not just destroyed the hive. Bees are dying out right now and we need to preserve bees, not kill them. They are vital to the pollination of about 70% of the food we eat.

That would make a great little exhibit at Animal Kingdom. For real!
