Whether you're a fan of The MCU or not, there's no arguing with the fact that Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige has steered the shared superhero movie universe to unprecedented success, and this great achievement has now been recognised by The Producers Guild of America.

Feige is to be presented with the 2019 David O. Selznick Achievement Award during the 30th Annual Producers Guild Awards on Jan. 19, 2019 at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles.

Since taking over as president of Marvel Studios in 2007, Feige has taken The MCU from strength to strength, continually churning out box office juggernauts such as Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther.

“To join so many of my heroes and mentors in receiving the David O. Selznick Award is one of the most meaningful experiences of my career, and I’m truly thankful to my colleagues in the Producers Guild of America for this recognition,” said Feige. “I want to also thank my Marvel Studios family, who have been with me every step of the way and without whom I would never have had this amazing journey.”

Previous recipients of the David O. Selznick Award include last year’s honoree Charles Roven, as well as David Heyman, Stanley Kramer, Billy Wilder, Clint Eastwood, Jerry Bruckheimer, Brian Grazer, Laura Ziskin, Kathleen Kennedy & Frank Marshall, Scott Rudin, and Steven Spielberg.

In my eyes, what Feige has done, is nothing short of incredible. I am a star wars fan boy at heart but what he has done with the MCU has absolutely changed the game for franchise movies. I would love for star wars to get a guy who has his vision. I'm not even sure if what he has done can ever be duplicated with such success.

It would be wonderful if there was a Feige for star wars. Unfortunately, the fan base well is so poisoned by Lucas and now Disney that the job is almost impossible. Disney will have to take the entire star wars plan seriously and not write themselves into corners but still keep most of the fan boys happy. It's not a easy thing. They can't make a random star wars movie anymore and expect it to make billions at anytime time of the year.

DC and Star Wars both need someone like Feige. It's pretty incredible to see how his vision for Marvel has unfolded through the years. One little throwaway line to 'the Avengers Initiative' after the credits for Iron Man turned into a superhero team up more popular than the Justice League.

His biggest achievement might be in facilitating having such a large cast, all appear in the same movie, in many cases in a smaller role than they may be used to.

Structuring deals so that big stars like Chris Pratt could headline their own film, and still appear in an ensemble film like Avengers really paid off.

There was controversy this year when the Oscars tried to include a "popular film" category, criticized because the Oscars are supposed to honour artistic achievement.

However, I understand the sentiment behind the proposed award. Just because The Avengers isn't high art doesn't mean it's not an achievement worthy of recognition. It's not easy at all to make a movie like Infinity War, which is well written, well acted, well made, and well received by audiences.

I’m going to disagree with your choice of Pratt, since he had one of the bigger roles in Infinity War and had special billing on all the posters. Don Cheadle might be a better example though (until Avengers 4 comes along, he didn’t have a lot to do in the last three movies except get injured in Civil War).
