Hey! first post - so i thought why not be a complete and utter n00b and post away!

ive booked my holiday for september (so plenty of time to change the hotel if needed!) and ive booked a room *hopefully pool view* in the marriot world centre lake buena vista. *url: http://www.marriottworldcenter.com/*

so here is the n00by question  has anyone here stayed there, and what is it like? Im a student - so i dress like a typical student :p and dont want to particularly want to feel out of place

edit: just read a review on expeida - still a bit bemused what to think really!

Hi CMatt...
Well congrats!! You have booked one of the real flagship hotels in the Disney Area. It is a hugh towering building that you can see for miles. It is surrounded by a golf course, if that interests you.

Nice thing about Disney World is the dress code is casual for just about anywhere...that said, this is hotel hotel that does a lot of business meetings and conventions. So you will see opposite ends of the dress code. There will be people in suits going to meetings and people with Mickey Mouse shirts sunburned and exausted. There will be a lot more " dress suits" at this Marriott than you will see at the hundreds of hotels that market just to families doing Disney.

You WILL need transportation unless you love, and I mean love, to walk. This hotel is fairly close to Disney, but at least a two walk to Disney and a lot of it will not be on sidewalks. So plan a rental car as your best option if you plan to explore around.

In my opinion, unless you have a fear of heights, I would opt for a room really high with a view of Disney, as you will catch all the fireworks and will always have a great view of the golf course. I think there are about 60 to 70 stories, so the upper floors would be spectacular views. Pools is nice view but a view of Disney from way up high should be unbelievable.

Food will be expensive, so again a good reason for a car to checkout the hundreds of cool restaurants available...

My recommendations for a student..
ESPN at Disney's Boardwalk
Bahama Breeze just down the road
Pleasure Island...pick your place
City Walk at Universal

Enjoy...Ted

On the hotel's website it had a section on transporation:

Complimentary, scheduled transportation available to Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, CityWalk, SeaWorld, Discovery Cove and Wet 'N Wild. (Excludes groups).
  • Disney transportation (nominal fee).
  • Airport services available for groups and for individuals.
  • Town car service from hotel.
  • Enterprise Rent-A-Car on-site.
I have stayed at this hotel for a company meeting twice, it was fantastic, the rooms are very nice, the hotel has a few restaurants, some of which aren't too pricey. Also, out on 535 there is a Benigan's restaurant, Lone Star, Golden Coral (ok for breakfast) and further down not within walking is Friday's, Jungle Jim's, Chevy's, Perkin's.
