My desk calendar for Saturday, Oct 12 says,

"Day of the Race (Mexico)"

This is a new one for me. Can you tell me what it is? How big of a holiday is it?

Thanks. :)

Day of the Race is our Columbus Day. We commemorate the day when Columbus arrived to America making the Spanish and Mexican cultures melt to form the "Mestiza" race. So that´s what we are now, "mestizos", the mix of both cultures.

It´s a holiday, but a working holiday.... it´s a day schools commemorate with some ceremony about it. The House of Spain here (a private organization) also has a ceremony in which they plant a tree and there are dances from Spain and Yucatan.

I hope this helped a little. :animwink: I will try to link to some pics from the newspaper about it on that day. :)

Thank you soooo much.

I learned something today, and it feels good.
(remembering it tomorrow is the real challenge :animwink: )

Sounds like a big enough holiday for me to toss some tequila in the blender....:D

Happy Day of the Race to our friends in Mexico!!

So much for my tequila plan. Turns out I am driving my son & date to dinner, then to the homecoming dance. :(
