Myself being in Marching band I'd have to say it's a bit average. The music was fine in the 2nd movement but I have to say my band did better with Pirates of the Caribbean in 04'. :p

Having done...about 12 years of marching band from grade school through college, this is pretty decent for a high school band.

I've never been a big fan of bands that have to have a lot of dancers, flags, and xylophones on the sidelines to make things more interesting. I'd rather have a 300 piece brass band that can push enough sound to make you feel it in your chest.

I did enjoy this, though.

Wel those videos where ... Interesting to say the least. The marching band had a wonderful brass section but percussion was not up to par. Or anywhere close! Im sorry but if my band director had said to me "I think we will recreate fantasmic! Mountain and all" I would have to quit. Good on paper and mind, not the feild tho.

That was really cool, although I do have to admit that after listening to what it was supposed to sound like, it didn't sound as good anymore, but I think it was fantastic for a high school.

Wow...watching Marching Band is entirely different from actually being in it. I'm so glad I never really had to watch our performances. Seems like it would be a really fun show to do though.

I agree, the movements were VERY average. Just alot of going backwards and forwards, left and right. Very simplistic. My marching band did better with Gladiator last year as well. We even had two "Gladiators" fighting each other at the finale.

What was your pirates of the Caribean one like?

Well, just to see it performed on a marching field was impressive - good attempt at least.

However, having also been a marching band gees for 4 years in HS, I have to say that we would have beat the snot out of them. Their music was all over the place and the marching, as someone said, was VERY basic. Lots of standing still too. Of course, my HS has recently won state every year in a row since 2000, and comes pretty darn close in BOA Grand Nationals :p Yeah, I'm gloating!

My brother plays in Purdue University's orchestra and wind ensembles - I keep telling him to have the conductor do Illuminations sometime. It would be killer awesome.

As a fellow band geek, I too thought it was good -- but average. Our marching band was very, very, very, small in HS but we made up for lack of people with our musicality. One thing I would have loved to have played in my wind ensemble was IllumiNations....god that would have rocked!

P.S. the interpretive dance was both alarming and hilarious!

i wish we did that (I'm in guard) but we never would because I doubt it would go well in competition...plus my school is poor and can't afford to buy the rights to anything Disney :brick:

I played in my high school marching band for four years and was drum major my senior year and have seen many marching band preformances. Good concept and good effort but overall it was lacking.
