Man's Best Friend Attraction for DAK

It is surprising to me that there are no attractions dedicated to dogs at WDW. There are so many live action and animated Disney movies with dogs either in starring, secondary or supporting roles. Yet no rides or shows. My proposal is to create a dark ride/great movie ride styled hybrid attraction for the Animal Kingdom that could be placed on Discovery Island. The ride would travel through 10 scenes narrated by Goofy which detail the cinematic importance of dogs in Disney's history. The following scenes are in no particular order except for the finale:

1. Lady & The Tramp - The first animated dog feature which could recreate the now iconic spaghetti scene with supporting characters surrounding.

2. Old Yeller/Big Red - Classic tales of boys and their dogs, particularly Old Yeller as the first live action tale. Forest settings with characters at each end of the set.

3. 101 Dalmations - This would be a fun one to create with the Pongo, Perdita, and the original 15 puppies as the focal point. Maybe a London backdrop with the other puppies and supporting characters scattered about.

4. The gy Dog/Air Buddies - Not really a fan of either but both were/are signifcant franchises that could offer a then and now perspective. Both are also examples of dogs performing human activities.

5. The Fox and the Hound - A tale of friendship between two characters that are meant to be enemies. Farm setting again with the supporting characters around.

6. White Fang/The Legend of Lobo - Perhaps less well known these movies refelcted Disney's love of the wild and nature. Starred wolves rather than dogs, but at least they are related.

7. Oliver & Company - I considered these characters for the collaboration scene (See#9) but there are just so many characters here that could be set in a NYC scene.

8. The Incredible Journey/Homeward Bound - Original and remake both tell a story of adventure and survival through the journey of pets. Mountain/wlderness setting with both groups of characters.

9. Collaboration of other Characters - this could be a big studio setting that is scattered with secondary or supporting characters. Possibilities include Max (Little Mermaid), Nana (Peter Pan), Percy (Pocahontas), Bolt, Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Cat Characters (various movies), and pets from movies like Cinderella and the Great Mouse Detective. This scene could really cater to any dogs or cats thathave been featured in a Disney movie.

10. Mickey and Pluto - This has to be the last scene with just the two of them alone and Mickey saying something to his pal.

People on here are often discussing how DAK needs more attractions and I think based on Disney history, man's best friend could use an attraction.

Cheers,

Cheers,

See that's my first problem with this, that line makes it sound like something that belongs in DHS as opposed to DAK. If you would want an attraction like this in DAK you would have to change the kind of jist or theme of the attraction to more of a dog education type ride or explaining how their important to us as opposed to their cinematic importance. as soon as that is suggested it makes it a movie focused attraction. secondly there is no room on discovery island for said attraction, i would put it in the camp minnie mickey area.

I agree with both of your aguments in a sense. Perhaps cinematic importance was a poor choice of words as I thought each scene and the ride in general could demonstrate the relationship between the characters. I used cinematic importance because I don't think any other animal has been the focus or at least featured as prominently in Disney films as the dog. I suggested Discovery Island as I felt it would not fit any other theme. I considered Camp Mickey but it may become Pandora or something else. Surely they can sacrifice one of the many shops for a small dark ride.

I would look at it from the perspective of say how important the bond between a dog and a person is "mans best friend" and then illustrate how Disney has used our love of dogs in their movies possibly. Maybe expand this to pets in general and make it a pet themed ride narrated by goofy or mickey and pluto together. this would then make the theme the connection between animals and people and would fit well in my opinion in Rafiki's planet watch, it could help draw more people up there on the train which the area really needs. as for size, one shop wouldn't cut it space wise, i foresee this having a footprint about the size of HM or IASW, theres just nowhere on the island to put it. as well its rumored pandora wont happen so YAY :p

I work in the dog field and years ago I mentioned the same thing to my wife. Why doesn't Disney do something with the dog aspect of their films? We had also gone to Universal that year and they had a cute animal show at the time featuring dogs and other animals which sparked my thinking.
I see now Disney has some merchandise being sold geared to the pet owners that hadn't been there before, bowls collars etc. With all the dog lovers you would think they would get a big draw if they developed this.
