Does anyone know if that new mall that is located just off of I-4, and just past the Florida Turnpike is open yet? It has a Macy's in it (just in case my location is off). Thanks.

Yes, it has been open, but last I heard the place is so crowded that people are parking on the grass. I wanted to go there on my last trip (November), but I think I will wait til the newness wears off some first.

Hey crazygirley. Ditto to what spider-man said. My one friend who just came back 2 weeks ago said the same thing about the mall. He said it was worse than the parks in the summer.:hammer:

11,270 minutes and counting...:sohappy:

WOW.....

What is is about people that makes them flock to a new mall? Especially while on vacation?!?!?!

I have always been amazed at this phenomena since I first witnessed a mile long line waiting to get into a new Wal-Mart on a cold rainy day.

Its the same stuff in that Mall that is in EVERY other Mall in the country, after all. Maybe a different brand name....but the same stuff. Mall stores used to be unique geographically, but with the "corporat-izing" of the American shopping centers, they are all the same now. First big company in with the rent money gets the space.

Interesting psycho-socialogical studdy here.

No offense to anyone.....just curious.......

P.S. I bet they even have a food court! WOOHOO! :sohappy:

I agree with all your points except one... the new breed of malls are not first purchase, first in, the latest batch of malls are now more of an Entertainment Center. I do not know if this is true for this particular mall (although I bet it is). The last two malls in North Carolina have some extremly unique designs...

the first has a Nascar Park, a Bowling Alley, Two Ultra Arcades (big money games and rides like mini coasters and stuff). Some typical stores but a lot more unique or highly special versions, a Bass Pro Shop with a waterfall and Enormous Fish Tank also used for demonstrations, and several other smaller unique details (like theming for each section... the sports area has laser lights and rock-ish music).

the second new mall is half indoors and half outdoors. The outdoors part is almost a DTD feel, the indoors is highly themed to appear as a downtaown area. This mall does have more regular stores though, but it is really different from anything I have experienced before.

So the Mega malls today are more of a Mall America feel rather than a place to shop feel.

Spider-man, I recoginized, the first mall you described as Concord Mills but where is the second one. It sounds like somewhere i NEED to go. :)

Thanks for your help.

The Streets at South Point close to Raleigh.

Here is their site: http://www.thestreetsatsouthpoint.com/ but you really need to see the place to understand, i'll hunt for a picture of the outside half. They have water fountains, statues, music performers, clowns, and lots of different things. Some really nice restaurants too.

I agree with Brer Stitch and with Spider-man. Malls here have basically the same stores. The biggest advantage each has its their location. The one by my house (north of the city) gets really packed and they just added more stores to it making it the third biggest one in the country, I´m not sure how many stores, but I think I remember it´s close to 300. That´s where I go the most because it´s near my house, but the stores are mostly the same. Same stuff in many different ones...

The other one is in the East of the city (or is it West?) and gets even more crowded because the population is very high around it. Same thing: tons of clothing stores!

The Mall at Millenia is open. It's a pretty good mall. Really classy. They do have some nice (expensive) stores, but no Abercrombie and Fitch....GRRRRRRRR> They have AE Outfitters though. I like the new mall, really neat architecture. Parking is not so bad on weekdays, and it's not crowded at all near the Neiman Marcus entrance. (I guess becuase that's the most expensive store there).
