We arrive on March 1st and Magic Bands will arrive in 3-4 weeks. We have been looking on the net at people painting, drawing on, blinging out, steampunking, and any other form of decoration you can think of to their bands before they head to WDW. My question is does adding all this around the central mickey head cause trouble when trying to scan it at your room door, admission gate, fast pass return, etc. Some of the pictures I have seen have the mickey head covered in stones glued on and even the entire center area covered completely with a trading pin or metal type objects(steampunk). Does placing a trading pin with the pin point shaved down on the back over the central Mickey head

it cause it to not work? Any input on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Technically, you should be OK blinging out an MB. The "bling" would need to be fabricated from materials that would not interfere with radio transmissions. As long as the passive and active RFID can communicate with the transceivers for both long-range and proximity scans, you'll be fine.

What a cool idea. I was just thinking of painting mine, now I have a lot more ideas.

I haven't glued anything on mymagic bands but I have painted them and there has never been an issue. Looking forward to painting my new bands for February.

We (me and my granddaughters) have decorated several magic bands. We have used plastic "gems", temporary tattoos, nail art, and assorted paints and pens, even the puffy paints. Have never had a problem with them not working. As an FYI clear nail polish is your friend to keep things like the nail art or temporary tattoos on the band. The frequent on and off of the band can cause things to crack or fall off. We found that the cheaper clear nail polish from the dollar store works best, as it is more flexible. The better nail polish dries to a harder finish and does not bend as well. You can find a lot of Disney nail art on Etsy to decorate your bands with.

If you don't want to worry about gluing stuff on, you can get decals custom-cut for the Bands.

We used Magic Your Band for our last trip, and they worked great. (Just make sure you follow the instructions and do *not* pull them them as you apply them because they will stretch out of shape)

The original plan was to have guests design their bands at home before arriving (printed characters, add ons, etc). It was this way during the prototype early testing about 6 years ago but I guess that part never materialized.

From personal experience, it's sometimes hard to get a read from your door or a merchant's band reader. I'd bling out the band, but leave the actual Mickey face unchanged.
