Make a Memory...

I just needed to share this with some people who have toddlers or younger. There's a barber shop in MK, straight ahead and to the left if I recall correctly (they moved it last year so it's right up front now). Anyway, my son had his first haircut there which was oh so cool! He was a perfect angel, playing with Buzz while the barber was clipping his hair! Best of all, the barber swept up the hair and gave it to me in a plastic baggie with a certificate stating that he had his first haircut at DisneyWorld on such and such a date. On top of all that, she (the Barber) then gave my son a set of "Ears" which had "First Haircut" stitched on the back of the hat. You'd think that with getting all this it would have cost a fortune but I think it was only $14. Not too unreasonable considering the wonderful memory and the EARS and hair trimming sitting on my dresser! It was a truly awesome memory and thought that others might want to do it as well.

my dad got a hair cut there last summer, I convinced him to do it, so we could all say that we have been there!

he still braggs that it was the best hair cut ever. and our barber was from peoria Illinois, so we discussed home. (we are from bourbonnais, I go to school in Champaign, my sister in Bloomington.) and we loved the atmosphere. we got it done right before the afternoon parade, and he gave us a lot of "pixie dust", so there is a picture of my sister and I at the parade with pixie dust in our hair.

It isn't a bad price either, and it really is a good time! I highly recommend it for anyone of all ages!

Hi,

I was just getting ready to ask if anyone had any info on the barber shop that i had heard so much about. I have a little one that will be a 1 year old in 2 weeks and we are heading to wdw in july. I just thought it would be so great to get his haircut their. Did you have to make any reservations in advance or could you just go right in? Thanks for any information you could give me. :D

you just walk right in! you may have to wait a bit, but it was never at any one point crowded when we were in there, and we were there right before the afternoon parade. check in the morning though, and see if they take appts!

We did our son's first haircut there also. We were worried about how he would react to getting his haircut. He had a great time! He was laughing the whole time.

We also got the great pictures, his hair wrapped up, certificate and ears. On top of that the Barber shop Quartet came in an sang to him. He was such a good boy, the barber gave him almost a whole roll of those Mickey stickers, (which I still have tucked away for emergencies. ;) ) My husband thought it was so much fun, he got his cut too.

The people there are so nice and friendly! We now make it a tradition that as soon as we enter the Magic Kingdom we go straight to the Barber shop to get my son's haircut. Of course, we take plenty of pictures each time. It's a cute way to show how he big he's getting.

We've never had to wait more than 5 minutes. While he was waiting, they gave him bubbles and toys to play with. Wish we could find a place like this at home! :)

That's too cool! I never heard of that. I'm going to force my father to get a hair cut there in two weeks, just so i can see what this place is like!

We keep thinking about doing this, however when we brought our daughter for the 1st time she was 8 1/2 months old. She had enough hair to have it cut, but not enough patience or ability to sit still. Next trip will be March 2003 and she will be 23 month's old. I know we can't wait that long, we have trimed her bangs ourself 3 times now.

So while we might get her hair cut there, I don't think it will be the first time. (I wonder if they will give us the ears anyway!!!)

The coolest thing about the barbershop has got to be the actual barbershop quartet, the Daper Dans, that hang around there. If any guys out there enjoy singing barbershop, and know a song that they know you can even sing with them. They then give you a dated business card that says, Honorary Daper Dan. I make a point to see them everytime I go, and I occasionally sing with them too. It's the neatest experience to actually sing with a disney musical group.

It was definitely a great memory! I actually saw magic in my son's eyes afterwards. The barber did a great job with him (he was only a year old at the time).

I'd have to say that our wait was about 10-15 minutes though. It really wasn't that bad...our son watched the "older men" get their haircut. The quartet came along and sang as well. We went in the early afternoon, probably right after lunchtime so if you want to just walk in, I'd probably suggest going straight in the morning or even maybe during a mealtime. =)
