Main Street smell??

We recently got back from a week and it was fantastic. Prior to this trip we had been 2 yrs ago in October 2015. On that trip we noticed the main Street smell wasn't really there....just a raw sewage smell! It was quick but it was noticable. This year we went back and the same smell greeted us. We got the whiff of popcorn first from the vendor that was to our immediate left but then again, the quick raw sewage type smell. And both years we noticed it getting on and off at small world. Anyone else noticed? Our trips before, main Street was MAIN STREET with that signature smell. Now, it is popcorn which is delicious, then that sewage smell and then the quick burnt coffee smell from Starbucks . I don't smell the main Street smell until we walk by Edys ice cream and that is only if we are on that side. My husband mentioned it but I had noticed it also...anyone else? I remember it being the most incredible smell...but it's been lacking these last 2 trips.

Aren't there devices used throughout all of Disney World that give off certain smells? Smellsters or something like that?
If so, they might have just turned it off for some reason...at least I hope. Maybe they are converting it to a pumpikiny spice smell for the autumn season?

Smellitizers. The easiest one to spot is in the lower wall of the Candy Shop on main street... look for the blue mesh grills on the lower panels.

I hope so....but I doubt it. What are the chances that 2 years apart we had the same issue. Also noticed the smell by small world.

If you bring a lighter with you can determine with 100% assurance where the methane odor is coming from. As you walk onto Main Street hold the lighted lighter about waste high and a arms length in front of you. The first person to have a hot flame shoot out of them like the tail of a comet is responsible. Problem solved!

If you do an internet search you will come up with both terms, about half and half. This being such an important issue ;) maybe somebody who is in the know at WDW (Mr. Penguin maybe?) will comment and let us know what they are "officially" called by Disney.
Whatever they are, one idea I had would be during the hot months to switch the scent to Febreze or Glade while there are thousands of people crammed into Main Street on the way out of the park at the end of the day...

Thanks for your research. I personally don't care what they're called, but I've always heard them referred to as smellitzers. As always, I could be wrong . . .

Well, I always heard them called smellitizers, but I could be wrong too.
What will be funny is if we are BOTH wrong. :D

In the past year when we've gone to MK there was a strong sewer smell by the Sunshine Orange place on the way to Adventureland. Between that smell and the smoking area it didn't have a magical feel.
