So now I am confused I would love to go in June and if I can make an appointment even better. Thanks in advance guys! xx

Although I've never been to the barbers on main street, I've read a lot of people saying that it's a good idea to make an appointment. Plus, with an appointment you can plan your day around it. I'm not sure what number to call though. Have a great trip.

It's best to make an appointment. Depending on the time of day and how busy the Magic Kingdom is, the wait time can vary. The barber shop closes about 4:30 last I looked and the mornings are busy. A haircut is a haircut, unless, it's at Disney World.

Do they still do the hot-towel shaves? My dad used to get one every trip when we were little. He still says "it's the best ride at Disney" Hahaha! He has talked it up so much over the years that I would like to treat my husband to one on our next trip.

You can make appointments but they aren't required. If you don't have an appointment, I recommend going in the afternoon when it isn't as busy. They do not do shaves.

Our youngest son had his first haircut ever there! :)

I think it depends on what time of year your going, the larger the crowds, the more important it is to make reservations. We made a reservation in advance, and times were very limited (this was last April between the Spring Break and Easter rushes).

It's always good to make a reservation no matter what.

How necessary the haircut is will affect how important the reservation is. If it is a "must do" I'd make a reservation for sure.

Last June my brother wanted a haircut on the spur of the moment and we lucked in to coming when they were completely dead (during the afternoon parade) and we were in and out in 20 minutes. By the time we left there were at least three other groups waiting for a barber, so it is a risk to show up without reservations unless you don't mind waiting.

Unfortunately when I was there in January they told me they do not do straight razor shaves any more. The may still have a hot towel shave but it is not a true hot towel shave any more.

Also if it is a first hair cut or special occasion an appointment is best. We went during a dead part of the year and my friend was able to be seen with no wait but it was during the retiring of the flag so most people in the Main Street area were paying attention to that.

I was shocked at how affordable the hair cuts are. My friend spent a little over 20 once he threw in tip which is about the same as he pays here in NYC.

Fair warning they say they don't confetti bomb adults but they do! My friend had confetti in his hair the entire week we were at Disney.

I didn't even know you could make an appointment. I waited for about 30 minutes in February. No matter. I'd never go back there again. The person who cut my hair apparently didn't understand the meaning of the word "trim".

Apparantly, the Harmony Barber Shop began taking appointments from July 2010. You can call 407-WDW-DINE, Disney Vacation Club Member Services, or the lobby concierge at your Disney Resort Hotel to make appointments (according to another unoffical Disney site!!)

My niece had her first haircut there, great atmosphere, enjoy! :animwink:

OK, first time poster; long time reader of these forums!

I too am taking my 2 year old son for his first trip to "meet the mouse" in June and have been thinking about getting his first "pro" haircut at MK. My question is how well the barbers work with young kids? My son isn't all that fond of people messing with him, so I am slightly concerned.

Also, are the prices reasonable?

They work extremely well with small children. My daughter had her first haircut there and was a bit distracted by everything going on, but, the stylist made it a magical event for us all. If you let them know it's your child's first haircut there, they might go an extra mile for you. As for prices, they were very reasonable. It was about what you would pay at home at a Cost Cutters, Fantastic Sam's, etc. It's really a fun experience. I've even had my hair cut a couple of times there too.
