Thought I would share some more Magic Kingdom fond memories with another batch of slides of the mid-1970's. All photoshopped and cleaned up a bit for your viewing pleasure.

Notice the Tobacco shop and the wooden indian statue out front.

I miss the days of unique shops on Main Street.

Did they use less rich paint tones in the past? Or does it look that way because of being old photos?

Main Street, USA has become brighter and more vibrant over the years. Victorians tended to paint more with neutral and earth tones than the wild colors most people today think about. In some ways it's been a weird game of outdoing the other. Disneyland's Main Street, USA was cheerier than historical accuracy, and inspired by what could be real Main Streets were revitalized following Disneyland's pattern.

I still loved when the Main Street Theater was still open and you were able to venture through seeing the Cutouts and old cartoons playing..But, then that Mural...Such a frozen image in time...Here's the Final version that ended when they added The Black Cauldron and Great Mouse Detective characters..Such a shame that this was taken down and placed in the archives...http://www.fortfiends.net/forum/topic/4839-disney-history-bill-justice-character-mural/

However, they do pay a tribute to it as you wait in the Queue area to meet Magician Mickey. As you look at the Mail Box Bins one says B. Justice (the Artist who did the Mural) Has a small version (which I reeeeeealllly wish they had for sale) wrapped in his bin.

And as anyone who has walked through Suess Landing can attest, bright colors do not last long in bright sunshine.

On a personal note I teach color theory and painting and I have always appreciated the color theming of the Disney parks and films. I am working on a course where I am going to explore the color theory of Disney...very excited about putting that together.

Nice. I was fortunate to visit Tivoli a few years ago on a Scandinavian holiday. Beautiful and quaint.

I much prefer those colours to what we have now.

I prefer the newer, richer colors. The Florida sun already makes colors fade quickly, and light and pale colors look dull and bland in the intense sunlight.

Nice. I was fortunate to visit Tivoli a few years ago on a Scandinavian holiday. Beautiful and quaint.

Note at WDW MK the "Wooden Indian" still resides outside Crystal Arts on Main St.

Tivoli was such a beautiful park and I can see why it inspired Walt for Disneyland. Tivoli especially takes on a magical quality at night.
