Goodbye or should I say good riddance. Hate that ride.

Here is to hoping they do that retro parachute drop and paint it that perfectly nostalgic green. Perfect! No other theming needed.

Look at me, I'm posting in the DL forum! :king::lookaroun

Brrrrr, it's cold in here. See ya.

Orange County weather for Monday, August 9th

Anaheim
Morning beach fog, Afternoon sun, light breeze
High - 76
Low - 58

Laguna Beach
Morning beach fog, Afternoon mostly sunny, light breeze
High - 74
Low - 60

Yeah, that's probably cold for a Floridian with sweat dripping off their nose.

(Trust me, I lived in the South for years, I remember what August was like.)

I find it odd that they are spending all of this money to change the look of the old Orange Stinger and soon Mullholland Madness and they are going to tear this down? I'm sorry, but I thought the Maliboomer was a perfectly fine, simple attraction that provides a decent thrill and gives a great view.

I don't think they could come up with a way to theme it to the 1920's though. The rest of the Pier stuff can be reworked to the 1920's, and they've already begun. The difference between the Orange Stinger and Silly Symphony Swings is simply stunning. Pictures don't do it justice.

I am really looking forward to seeing what they do with the rather charmless Mulholland Madness this fall. But Maliboomer was so clearly modern, so clearly of the 21st century, that it couldn't be rethemed. It had a ridiculously high height requirement and never seemed to be too popular, so it was probably an easy thing to axe. The silence from West Coasters on its demise is deafening.

Rumor is that area becomes a little green pocket park for now, but is being eyed as the area for an entrance to a dark ride to be contained behind the pier area at some point in the future.

I was stunned that tall piece of garbage was put in the park from the beginning.
It's so Six Flags....or what Knotts has become.
With the improvements California Adventure is getting, there's just no way to justify keeping the unthemed, unoriginal Maliboomer. Adios!

I think retheming such a giant structure would've been too difficult, and enclosing it would be out of the question.. They're trying to create a cohesive theme at the Pier, and visually the Maliboomer just doesn't fit in. It's just way too big - ruins the sightlines around the park. As a Paradise Pier fan, I'm glad they chose to remove it altogether. This is what Disney had to say about it:

“As part of our overall expansion of Disney California Adventure park, the new vision for the Paradise Pier area is a return to the romance and charm of California’s oceanfront playgrounds of the early 1900s. The theming is reflected in the architecture, attractions and overall ambiance,” said Betsy Sanchez, a Disneyland Resort spokeswoman, in a prepared statement. “A drop tower attraction, such as the Maliboomer, came after that time period and is no longer in line with the theme of Paradise Pier.”

Tom Staggs and his family were seen at the parks this past weekend, looks like he wanted to catch one last ride before it closes :)

There's been much talk lately of Tom Staggs and his frequent Disneyland visits, as well as his input on the FLE project out at WDW. (I've spotted him a couple times now at Disneyland this past spring and summer on weekends, with his family going on rides in casual clothes, with I think that same VIP tour host. I never once saw Jay Rasulo at Disneyland, casually or formally, in all the years he was Chairman of Disney Parks.)

If Tom Staggs is taking his boys on Maliboomer this past week, that's a good sign that they are healthy, normal young American males who enjoy that sort of adrenalin rush. I'm not a fan of Maliboomer thematically or design-wise, but it's certainly a good way to get the blood pumping. Tom Staggs and his boys apparently agree. I intend on riding it one more time this month as a farewell to a quickly passing era. Heck, the Staggs' family VIP tour guide of choice isn't even the typical beach-blonde perky hostess in plaid minskirt, but is instead a guy who looks like my old Marine Corps drill instructor, except in plaid instead of olive green!

Tom is apparently a man's man. No wonder he's not impressed with the Princess Meet N' Greets and Pixie Hollow of FLE.

But I wonder what this means, with Tom Staggs purposely riding Maliboomer as a casual guest, for the future of Disney theme parks? Hopefully some well-themed and nicely designed attractions that don't rely heavily on glitter makeup and souvenir sparkle wands. It wouldn't hurt Disney theme parks to butch it up just a bit, after a decade of the cutesy Princess and Pixie invasion.

I don't mind the ride necessarily, but I think it's pretty redundant to have it when you have the much more immersive Tower of Terror that offers a very similar experience -- only with all the Disney bells and whistles.

Very well said.
You're more diplomatic than me.:animwink:

If you like the ride you hate to see it make way for a new "park" but hopefully they'll use the land one day to make a real attraction, then it will be worth it. I'll be going on my last ride today....I'll take video of my last ride to the top.

I say good riddance. It's such a bland, non-Disney type ride. Now it's sad that it isn't being replaced with ANYTHING, but in time I hope to see a much better attraction sitting in it's place. I skip it....you can find one of those types of rides at practically any other amusement park around the United States...I spend my time over on TOT instead.
