Magicbands not allowing for same day multipark entry with base tickets?

I am not sure if this has been posted before, so I figured I would post.

With our recent visit to Disney world some of my family stayed on property and received magic bands. They had purchased a 5 day park pass through their travel agent months before the trip, however they only ended up being able to go to the parks for 4 of the 5 days they were on property.

On the 4th day they figured they could do half of the day at one parks (AK) and then do the rest of the day at another park (MK) since they still had an extra day ticket to use. When they arrived at the second park they were told they could not gain entry on the same day as another park entrance because they didn't have a park hopper. They were told they have to upgrade or come back tomorrow to gain entrance, even though they had a full day pass still on the account that had not been used.

Has anyone else seen this? Before, I thought if you paid for a multi day ticket you could use those as full days or half days or however you like. Assuming that each time you entered a park on a day that counted as an entry off the ticket.

You've never been allowed to park hop without a park hopper.

This is normal policy; Entering more than one park on the same day requires the park-hopper option, even if you have unused day(s) remaining on your pass (band, card, doesn't matter).

Thanks for the information guys! I had no idea it worked that way. (I usually have the AP or Park Hoppers).
Is this policy the same for Multi-day passes with No Expiration?

Best way is to think of Magic Your Way tickets as giving admission for *calendar* days not park admissions. A base ticket gives you entrance to one park per *calendar* day for as many days as you have one your ticket. Want access to more than one park on the same calendar day, you need to add the Park Hopper option.
